One of the few places in the world they wouldn’t make sense at all is in Germany itself, I guess.
One of the first of these parodies I ever saw was at a Dream Theater concert in 2008. The band had cancelled an earlier show and someone (possibly a fan) thought it would be a ripping wheeze to do a Downfall parody about the stuff-up. It was shown onstage on a huge screen and seemed curiously incongruous at the start of a concert by the legendary po-faced prog-metallers.
Ironically even this show ended early when the monitor system went down and the band refused to continue.
If I see another Downfall parody I’ll destroy the interweb! Lazy, obvious and tedious these days.
