By the way, Round Britain Quiz is back on the airwaves. I don’t care for the new theme tune which sounds a bit Blankety Blank, but as they’d already lost the original for a Penguin Café Orchestra alternative, that’s not a big loss now. It’s good to hear the classic voices, though I’m now of an age where even I can aber some of the questions, the references now including Prince and New Order, as well as elements of high culture.
How about this?
Mountain Survivor Man Love
(band names)
Magnolia Amsterdam Sacrifice Frontier
(film titles)
Expectations Other Morning Reply
(album titles)
Feeling Bee Town Quarter
(song titles)
Not what I was thinking
I thought it was a stretch – particularly the last two categories.
Mountain Town Frontier Other = WILD
Survivor Man Feeling Expectations = GREAT
Bee Sacrifice Love Magnolia = HONEY
Amsterdam Quarter Morning Reply = NEW
They are all song titles with one common word before each group of four
I thought it would be too easy!
Have I got it wrong then?
Exactly what I was going to ask.
There are so many song titles, that I think it is harder than you suggest, Mousey. How about this?
Amsterdam, Feeling, Frontier, Morning = New
Expectations, Other, Quarter, Reply = No
Bee, Man, Mountain, Town = Sugar
Love, Magnolia, Sacrifice, Survivor = Sweet
Hey @salwarpe – 1st two perfect
Then – Sugar is right except not Man, it’s Magnolia
The last one is Soul – Love, Sacrifice, Survivor, Man
Of course, Grateful Dead!
And then, David Bowie not Anita Baker; Santana not Evanescence; Rolling Stones not Peter, Paul and Mary; Sam & Dave not Sixto Rodriguez
I think it was the last one that convinced me it had to be right for an Afterword Connection – obscure film/music reference edging out classic soul.
Jane, Love, Thing, Wine.
Day, Kiss, Skin, Way.
Honey, Life, Man, Thing.
Beauty, Cow, Dog, Friday.
Jane, Love, Thing, Wine. = Sweet
Day, Kiss, Skin, Way. = Perfect
Honey, Life, Man, Thing. = Wild
Beauty, Cow, Dog, Friday. = Black

The question setter for my BIL’s local pub quiz is one of the members of the London side on RBQ, sets some interesting questions.
