It seems to be getting pretty mediocre reviews (The Times today, one or two music mags) but I heard a track on the radio and it sounded amazing – sumptuous, sophisticated, luxuriant. Mind you, I can’t recall the melody – but the orchestral arrangement was way above Radio 2’s usual fare. I say this as man who hated the 80s, so I’m thinking ‘This CAN’T be as bad as the reviews are saying…’

(a) I would only ever use the ’19’ before said decade, so as to maintain a considerable, hands-off, distance from it.
(b) I would always use the word ‘dire’ before it.

The track you heard was probably the lead single ‘Viva Love’, which is exactly as you describe re. sumptuousness etc. I adore it and would love the rest of the new album to be as good. Although Viva Love is a 25-year-old track, as opposed to the rest of the album which is new, which might explain any difference in quality…
Listened to three or four songs. some nice arrangements but tunes appear to have left the building.

Yeah. For me, TOTP is going through a purple patch just now. I own/owned a good percentage of those charts.
I’m really enjoying it. Lexicon is one of my faves so I was a bit apprehensive but it’s an excellent listen.
On first listen it’s a definite “hip hip hooray” from me, but not quite a “yippie yiy yippie jiy yay!” just yet.

I pre-ordered my copy today (it’s not available here in the US until June 10th). However, I will say that the 30 second snippets provided by Amazon have whetted my appetite.
Vinyl version is £13.99 on amazon at the moment, but it’s not out until July 8th.
Nearly 40 dollars over here – I bet it’s not even a gatefold sleeve. Tchuh…
