Still seems to be nothing in the wider internetsphere – it has become the norm for Apple to announce these things 2 months ahead, which would be about right..?
I’m guessing this is a slow burn ‘soft’ launch they’re doing. You can be sure Giles didn’t tweet *that* without Apple knowing exactly what he was doing, and what he was going to say in it.
This will generate a small amount of chatter for a week or so, there’ll be something more in four/six weeks time and they’ll announce it proper end of the September is my guess, just in time for Chrimbo market.
The Sgt. Pepper’s (2 CD) and White Album (3 CD) releases, while reasonably priced and I’m pleased I bought them, have been played about five and six times respectively, and, even then, only the extras CD of each.
Still utterly perplexed that Apple – is it still Apple? – didn’t release the Live at the BBC Vol. 2 in 2009 (instead of the mono and stereo boxes) and then produce 50th Anniversary releases for all the albums. They had enough time to plan it! Would have sold far more and would have prevented all those public domain Love Me Do/Please Please Me releases.
By this time next year the catalogue will have an alarmingly heavy bias towards Pepper-Let It Be and, Heppy’s right on this one, the truly astounding, absolutely never-to-be-repeated, bit was Beatlemania.
That all said, they’ve still got more clue than The Rolling Stones!
Remixing seemed to be considered a no go area until the Yellow Submarine Songtrack took the opportunity – presumably as they had to do a 5:1 mix anyway – but was then ignored until Love, I think. There was a changing of the guard at Apple which has produced much more imaginative and cohesive releases – the 2009 remasters, the US albums, and then the Pepper and White album mega boxes. The early albums are crying out for new stereo versions. The 1 album reissue did the singles, if memory serves, and also has 5:1 versions, so I’d be amazed if it doesn’t happen some time after the LIB project next year.
Are there public domain issues other than Love Me Do/PS I Love You..?
To be fair, the Stones are probably more pissed off than anybody about the way the Decca material has been handled over the years. Bit hard for them to do anything about it when they don’t own the masters.
And Abko cannot produce versions with extra tracks, video etc without The Stones’ permission. Hence the crappy Satanic Majesties and Beggars Banquet releases.
And the ‘2009’ remasters were done years earlier. It just took Apple until 2009 to get round to releasing them. A cynic might think that they were just trying to squeeze the maximum possible revenue out of the original CD versions…
The 2009 remasters weren’t “done years earlier”. The whole catalog was remastered around 2000 (Abbey Road studios were virtually closed for several months as a result), but the mastering team soon realized that new technology would be available, and their revamped catalog would be old hat by the time it was released. So Apple scrapped everything and began again in 2008.
The Beatles in Stereo box was mastered during 2008 in 24-bit at 44.1kHz sampling frequency because the 2-track masters did not contain anything above 20kHz (except for tape noise).
And then, 5 years later, the Beatles in Mono LP set was done direct from the mono masters with no digital processing.
If you’re a mastering engineer at Abbey Road, you have a job for life.

Oh dear. Does that mean we aren’t getting a proper remix of Ballad Of John And Yoko and Old Brown Shoe, just as we didn’t the contemporaneous Only A Northern Song, Hey Jude & Revolution?
I didn’t buy the White Album Anniversary edition, but I’d seriously consider buying this one if it truly exists. Of course I’ll probably end up buying the White Album one too.
A Beatle forum I sometimes frequent (not often, I find it boring and full of lists about ‘top five notes played by George on ‘Revolver” and all that malarky) hasn’t mentioned this at all; and they’re the kind of fans who argue about who loves Paul the most.
This possible listing hasn’t made me change my mind. I bought Pepper because I thought it may be the only deluxe, White Album because I love it. Abbey Road is a pretty good album, but this just doesn’t interest me.
My own need falls considerably short of deluxe box sets.
Only time will tell if it also falls short of the upcoming Uncut Special on ⌠erm ⌠Ringo.
If this doesn’t bring Tiggs out of his AB denial, nothing will.
I am upcited.
Of course I’ll be buying it even though I may not like it. Come Together could sound totally ace and he couldn’t make I Want You any worse. đ
I’d like to think I wouldn’t be drawn in…but who am I kidding?
Honey, I sold the house.

This had better happen now or there’ll be trouble.
THIS is the one that will finally get me digging deep for the whole box and not just the two-CD version
You and me both Ainsley. That holiday in the USA just went on hold for another year.
I have the last 2 box sets and I think that combined I have played them about 1.5 times, so this time I will see sense and not bother

Don’t get me started on the Stones Decca years….
The 2009 stereo version of PPM is wonderful, the absolute star of that batch for me. Not sold on the AHDN though.
To be fair, the Stones are probably more pissed off than anybody about the way the Decca material has been handled over the years. Bit hard for them to do anything about it when they don’t own the masters.

Compare the post-1971 stuff, starting with the excellent 1994 remasters – an early example of how this should be done.
Except for Goats Head Soup. Where’s the superdeluxe Goat?
There should be an SDE of all those albums.
When you see some of the shite that gets that treatment on the SDE site…. New Kids on the Block? Stroike a Loight, Meeery Poppinsh…
Those early albums are less amenable to a Giles remix. I have high hopes for the 1965 and 1966 material, though.
You might think thereâs not much that can be done with the early albums…but let me introduce you to… the De-mix!

A lot of Universal artists will want this done as part of a settlement over the warehouse fire
No, the 2009 remasters were well overdue. Glad they came out then. And there have been an abundance of things since.
And the ‘2009’ remasters were done years earlier. It just took Apple until 2009 to get round to releasing them. A cynic might think that they were just trying to squeeze the maximum possible revenue out of the original CD versions…
They wouldn’t be the first, but at least they didn’t embark on a major advertisement campaign of the back catalogue the year before –
– like The Rolling Stones did in 2001 before ⌠you guessed it, announcing the updated reissues in 2002.
The 2009 remasters weren’t “done years earlier”. Marvellous!
Abbey Road was first released in late September. Ten weeks to go?
Another clue for you all…

Tony Williams is involved? wow!
Which comedian said that George W. Bush got to become President because he turned up?
I’ll get the 2-CD version because it’s likely to be the only new record I want to buy in 2019 that will actually be on sale in a shop.
Funny business the Record business.
This possible listing hasn’t made me change my mind. I bought Pepper because I thought it may be the only deluxe, White Album because I love it. Abbey Road is a pretty good album, but this just doesn’t interest me.
I know it isn’t cool to like Abbey Road, but it is the best selling Beatles album for a reason….it is effing brilliant.
Erm … what he said
Nah, it’s a silk purse from a sow’s ear. About 3 great tracks, several weak ones (and Pepper sold more). Am talking relatively of course.
Come Together, Something, Here Comes The Sun, I Want You (She’s So Heavy), You Never Give Me Your Money, Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End.
All brilliant tracks.
The only real duds (imo) are Mean Mr Mustard and Polythene Pam.
I will go with Something, Here Comes the Sun and You Never Give Me Your Money (plus reprise into Carry that Weight etc.). Because is very nice too.
I add Maxwell’s Silver Hammer and Octopus’ Garden to your duds, not too fond of Oh Darling either.
My own need falls considerably short of deluxe box sets.
