Help – something’s happened to my Mac and my entire iTunes, all 25,000 items, have disappeared. They must be there somewhere cos they’re using up the usual 260+ gb in storage, but I can’t find them in the library. It’s blanks apart from some stuff that was purchased through iTunes. tried doing a restore from Time Machine but I don’t have enough storage space… I think it’s just looking in the wrong place, or something. Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated….

When similar happened on my PC, I loaded media monkey and asked it to find all music files. It did. Whether it would work on a mac I don’t know, but it’s worth a go. And I stuck with it until I switched systems to a mac, and reloaded ’em back to i-tunes, purely as I find it a more familiar template. Plus, natch, back up, back up and back up, on remotes.
Media monkey doesn’t work on a Mac.
When these things come up here I normally think it’s a good idea to go to specific iTunes forums, as it will have come up there before.
Haven’t used iTunes for ages, but I do recall that after an update, it lost (or became disconnecred from?) the registry file.
Located and restored the registry file and hey prestk Mrs Ds iTunes sparked back to ljfe
(this was on a PC, don’t know if it applies to a Mac)
Are they still visible in iTunes but not available to play? (ie, with a little exclamation mark next to the track names)
Where are they normally stored? On an external disk or on your Mac?
This should help.
