OK – trying to add/delete music on mu iPod Touch – I delete it from the IPod through the Mac but its still there later on the iPod (but doesn’t show in the Mac). Tried syncing it after deleting but now if I delete anything through the Mac iTunes tries to autofill my iPod and I don’t know how to stop it! Can anyone help me?

If you go to iTunes preferences, under Devices you’ll find a box to tick that says, ‘Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically.’
I find life is much less stressful all round if you tick ‘Manually manage music and videos’ on the device summary when it’s plugged into iTunes.
As for undeleted deleted items, try restarting the iPod.
A curveball – buy a Fiio X1 instead.
Looks good – and a nice price – but it isjust an MP3 player?
(adopts Marks & Spencers ad voice) This isn’t just any MP3 player….
Yes, in terms of functions think iPod rather than iPad/iPhone. But my goodness, it sounds good, uses solid-state storage (so is bomb-proof), and will drive full-sized headphones.
I don’t think it plays DRM-protected M4a files (early iTMS downloads), if that matters to you.
I’d like this but 128 gigs ain’t enough. Will they bring one out with two slots? Or are largely capacity cards coming down the line? Please tell me, I’m a f888wit.
The X5 which I owned for a while does have 2 slots, so can take up to (at current writing) 256GB of – lossless, pristine – music. Warning though: the user interface is appalling and only fixed on the the X7, with some serious scrolling required to reach the middle of the alphabet. I’m talking minutes, here. It is the best sounding portable you will ever hear though.
Thanks.
Just found this highlight from the Amazon users Qs and As for the X1:
Question:
I am not an attractive woman in a coffee shop. Can I still use this device?
Answer:
Don’t worry, this product will turn you into an attractive woman in no time at all. However you will have to find your own way to a coffee shop.

Yes, simply place a bag over ones head. You can make a hole either side for the headphones but if the headphones are also not attractive it might be better to place them under the said bag. Leave the X1 on the table for the world to see in its stunning glory. Should the bag slip off make sure you have a getaway plan but …

Unfortunately no.

The device is specifically for attractive people. Unattractive hipsters typically use apple products the coffee shop (because a choice of bright colours always makes you more interesting, seemingly with depth).

Yes
Neither am I
It ha a rather unclassy black rubber protective shell (if you put it on) perfectly suitable for example middleage half bold men…

Middleage half bold men? I embrace you my brothers!!!
Innee bald!
Nearly everything on the Afterword is written in bald.
The recently-announced X1 model II does take 256GB cards, a jazzier UI and added Bluetooth. Same price.
I imagine the other models in the range will get a similar makeover soon.
How can they go back to 1 when they’re already at 7? It’s not how these things work. The number needs to be embiggened for every release. Honestly, it’s like they don’t even have a branding consultant.
BTW I meant “256 per slot” too for the x5 up there …
Oooh, ta! Will hang on for that then.
PS. I quite like the fact that their headphone amplifier looks like a very small hip-flask.
We’ve all got our addictions.
There is an option in the sync part of iTunes to either auto-fill or not. Check what it is for the iPod
Thanks for your responses – I think I fixed it, thanks to this article, link below – in case anyone else has a similar problem. Why does Apple have to make things so difficult? That Fiio does look increasingly good … http://osxdaily.com/2014/05/26/stop-itunes-autofill-unwanted-music-ios/
Depends what you want it for/how you use it. I tried the fiio, had a battery problem, got a quick return/replacement and went for a Sony NWZ which was much easier to use – especially browse as mentioned above. My ears are not sophisticated enough to notice the difference sound-wise. I do miss my lamented classic’s album cover flow. and used to spend many happy hours correcting it when “they” tweaked it up.
I’m hoping that if I’m a very good boy next year and the year after that etc that Santa might leave one of these –

but then again no-one’s THAT good?
