Another great blog Niall, and a few Robin Trower albums I previously missed to investigate. Nothing could induce me to try that Yes album after that ghastly single though, unfortunately, not even your fine prose.
@Twang Ha! It’s a much better album than it gets credit for but, it’s a Rabin album, not a Yes album. I know someone ‘in the biz’ who heard the demos of TR’s songs and they are almost exactly the same. He thinks that Rabin was VERY generous with his allocation of songwriting royalties. His new one is very good, btw.
I really enjoyed researching RT and have been on a Trower binge for a month.
Thanks for the kind words.
90125 is a funny one – it’s not really a Yes album (in the tradition of what came before) but – and maybe this is my ears – I can hear some slight future echoes of it in Going For The One and Drama (not in Tormato though).
I think it is the last “proper” Yes album until Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman & Howe (which isn’t a proper Yes album either)
@nialb just to let you know that Richard and Linda didn’t play at the 75 Reading (the reason I went) and were replaced by Jack the Lad.
Great read.
Great lineup though, right down to Lou Reed having the decency to not show up.
Jack the Lad were good, mind.
Saw their first ever gig. They did a pit shovel dance where they linked the shovels like the EFDSS nut. However I wanted to see R<.
Sorry Niallb I missed the second L @niallb
I think my first and only R< was Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Dec 1977.
This year I took the flyer from my first time (75 Leeds Town Hall-) and got RT to sign it. Highly amused he looked at the price 75p “it’s £75 now.”
77 that would be the ‘Sufi tour’.
@hubert-rawlinson Thanks and, thanks.
Splendid work, as ever!
@Skirky Thanks.
Marvellous, as per.
