My good pal ‘Uncle Spike’ has an entrepreneurial offspring called Dave, who’s doing a degree in event management (I know, I know…). Still, we are where we are.
Dave’s dissertation involves a survey about the reopening of music festivals after Covid. The more responses he gets the better. If you’re interested, have a look.

Interesting timing. See my review I have just posted about one I attended on the weekend.
Well I thought I had. Can’t seem to find it.
Have you looked down the back of the sofa?
Yep and the bin
Just done the survey. One critique might be of the age ranges, which offers a selection up to a top line of >30. Has he been to a festival recently? Most of the residential events are heavily weighted to >50s, most of whom will have at least been offered the vaccine.
I’ll pass the info along.
Yes, that made me smile. For gender, I could choose between M, F, ‘Prefer not to say’ and both ‘Other’ and ‘Other …… (fill in detail)’, yet no discrimination between anyone over the age of 30. The phrase ‘unconscious bias’ screamed to mind.
Done,
Which makes me think again that I am not convinced the 2021 festival season is economically viable. I think the bands need a reasonable number of festivals to make it worthwhile. Brexit may cause a problem for the mid-range British bands playing EU festivals (solved in time maybe, but maybe not this year). Add in different covid regimes in different countries, which will make it harder to tour and for people to attend. If we don’t get a critical mass of festivals going ahead will it collapse the whole circuit for this year?
I hope not, but I’m not optimistic (particularly about Bjork at Blue Dot in July – more hopeful about Bingley in August because it is mostly UK bands apart from Pixies)
I’m well over 30, so obviously my festy days are over.
But I’ve filled it in anyway, as I’m also in the 15+ category (i.e. hardened fester)
‘Nephew Dave’ (as he isn’t known – though his antecedents are widely known, at least in my household, as ‘Uncle Spike’ and ‘Auntie Liz’) is thrilled at the willingness of the Afterword gang to fill in the survey and wanted me to pass on his thanks 🙂
Seemingly the age bias in not separating out demographics above 30 is more ‘conscious’, for this reason (says Dave):
‘One of the things I’m looking into is the economic status of young people – who are very likely to work in the hospitality industry/ general festival security roles. So the age brackets are to kind of to establish if there’s any disparities amongst young people who depend on income from these kind of events, to then attend other ones of their interest.’
Keep filling it in, one and all 🙂
Re the OP title… can you not go ONE THREAD without mentioning the blimming ‘vish?
