We don’t often hear people covering Pentangle soings, do we? Here’s their near-hit in three time signatures given a spring clean by a woman from, I’m guessing, the Netherlands.

Musings on the byways of popular culture
As a long time fan of Pentangle, that was very good.
Terrific cover! ReEally enjoyed that.
Excellent. Naturally, I wanted to find out more a discovered a whole album of tasteful covers on youtube (put up by them, so guilt-free!):
PS Colin, I think she might be Flemish. The “Joan Baez of Flanders” if I’m translating this bio correctly:

I bought the single, Light Flight, in 1969(?) It was the theme tune for BBC’s ‘Take Three Girls’ and I seem to remember it was one of the first stereo singles issued (but I could be wrong😟)
You’re nearly correct, Daffmeister – the previous single ‘Once I Had A Sweetheart’ was heavily advertised as being a stereo single, with that being a novelty at the time. Both ended up on the ‘Basket of Light’ album.
I’m sure I read somewhere that it was a different version of “Light Flight” for the TV theme than the one on the album. The lyrics were altered or something. I can’t remember if the single was the theme version or the album version.
I expect Colin will know the full story.
That’s a very classy cover version, up there. Most enjoyable.
There’s a short version with alternative lyrics (on one of the BBC Live in Concert sessions, and hard to find these days) that was recorded especially for the programme – the thrust of the first verse is basically “Come down to London Town, see the people there, rushing round and round, got no time to spare”, rather than “Let’s get away from here, find a better place, miles and miles away, from the city’s race”. So an complete u-turn in sentiment! It fitted perfectly with the three girls’ theme, being all swinging city life for emancipated girls and whatnot. Drop me a line if you want to hear it and can’t find it, I may have accidentally backed up a copy to the cloud.
I think the single was the album track with the original lyric.
All correct, Vulp.
Reet good that.
Here’s the original, live in Australia in 1972.
Interesting that Terry Cox is the harmony singer on that. I didn’t know he sang as well as drummed and percussed.
Gee, I remember that being broadcast. 15 at the time.
Excellent. Enjoyed that. Thanks for posting.
This thread made me think how much this fine track by Lau from their EP with Karine Polwart reminds me of Pentangle. I think it’s terrific.
