Apologies, I can’t remember who I was “in conversation” with regarding these 3 tracks but they are all favourites of mine and I just fancied putting them back out there.
Icehouse actually popped up on Spotify yesterday on a long journey across the fens. It sounds incredibly 80’s with its production but I do like it when the chunky guitars come in towards the end.
B-Movie (or someone) has finally got round to releasing the original recording of their debut album with I believe with versions of Nowhere Girl, Remembrance Day and Marilyn Dreams…oooof!
And I’ve always loved Waiting for a Train.
Thanks for listening!
Ironically, the error message “a problem occurred repeatedly” is a great way to describe an earworm.
As I mentioned on the earworms thread, I bought Icehouse on 12″ single for a quid last week.
Flash & The Pan I picked up on 7″ for 50p last summer.
Don’t yet have the B-Movie.
Ah, I should have known one of the posters was you @fentonsteve
Was one of the others @GCU-Grey-Area?
I think you’re right.
Aye, I love all them three. The long version of Nowhere Girl is fantastic; when the intro goes ‘r-i-i-p’ – (the noise where Steve Hackett would slide the plectrum across multiple strings back down the fretboard) into the song. I used to have the vinyl, now only an mp3.
Other 12” I have loved; Will Powers/Kissing with Confidence, Afrika Bambaata/John Lydon World Destruction, and a lot of Ultravox.
Now that would be some band!
Now, those I *do* have. Not all of the Ultravox, mind, but a good many.
I was gutted when my cassette of Ultravox’s Greatest Hits snapped. It was the version which had loads of 12” on.
Arctic Summer off Forever Running is the song for me, though I don’t think there’s a bad song on there.
Yep, the B – Movie CD is available from here :-

They still do the occasional gig too!
I remember Icehouses Icehouse single being featured on Entertainment USA and the following week 7 copies were taken to the local youth club disco by us sunken cheeked East Lancs new romantic wannabes. The dj gave it a minute before taking it off and declaring it undancible which was of course true but thats not the point. He had a perm.
Lovely stuff @uncle-mick! Especially the important bit about the perm.
I saw B-Movie about 8 years ago in Manchester in the Factory. Not the most well attended gig I’ve ever been to. Think the lead singer has a bit of a bee in his bonnet about their lack of success.
They are supporting the Chameleons at their annual Manchester Christmas gig this year.
Big soft spot for Marilyn Dreams…hey!
I remember B Movie & Flash and the Pan and still have 12inch & 7inch of those records. Didn’t recognise the icehouse song but I like it . Always thought B Movie would go on to be big but it never really happened for them .
Remembrance Day was and still is a stonking tune!
Nowhere Girl is equally good.
Stew and beans!
