Yeah, that’s a classic track. Everything but the Girl did a nice cover of it, too.
Pedants corner…I think it might have been Tracey Thorn who covered it on the b side of one of her very early singles.
Great article Niall, really enjoyed reading it. Excellent to read a potted history of The Monochrome Set on here too. They were the first proper gig I went to so I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for them.
Thanks @Nick-L. I knew nothing about them, other than the name, so the research was very enjoyable.
Tim Hart from Steeleye Span, in their imperial phases, to Monochrome set producer. Extraordinary!! Wiki, in a flourish of understatement call it “a bold move”.
Yes, @retropath2, mention of the Steeleye man took me by surprise.
It’s a very odd sounding production by Tim Hart on that album too. Good, well arranged songs, but the actual sound, although crystal clear, is really thin and lacking in impact. A real shame because it could have been a truly great album. Maybe it was due to budget or mastering, I’ve no idea, but it was a somewhat missed opportunity.
His revenge on “rock music” for an Anderson’s vile production on ‘Now We Are Six’?
Marvellous, as per.
