These things are to be celebrated… there’s a new vinyl shop open just off the A1 at Buckden, near St. Neots. It’s been open for a week in the owner’s barn/shed at the back of his house.
It’s only about 20 mins from me, so I went on a quick fact-finding mission today and I can report (a) Ian’s a lovely bloke (b) there’s a surprising amount of stock. I arrived 5 mins before closing time but Ian stayed open while I quickly did the bargain bins (which took 40 mins).
He also sells new Rega turntables, various vintage vinyl-playing kit and vinyl flight cases.
Good news. Unfortunately no where near me but I’m excited by IP33s news that Brighton’s Resident Music has quite literally doubled in size. I’m going to try and visit tomorrow.
Will have a look when I visit the brother in law at Little Paxton. Has it a name?
It’s called Vinyl Revival. URL listed above
Thanks FentonS. Missed that!
Curiously, I also visited a (relatively) new vinyl specialist shop today, run by another Ian, in Ayr – Big Sparra Records on Facebook). Came away with an amazing handful of 1950s rare UK EPS on small labels – Big Bill Broonzy, robin Hall, Alexis Korner’s Skiffle Group, Ken Colyer – plus a brand new vinyl of Mike Cooper’s Peter Eden-produced ‘Trout Steel’, featuring Mike Osborne, john Taylor, etc. Heartily recommended!
Yes, I really like “Trout Steel” too.
Well done to Paradise of Bachelors Records of North Carolina, USA for making such a great job of the CD and vinyl re-releases of a UK album from 1970.
Apropos Mike Cooper’s Trout Steel: it’s an overlooked jewel, although FWIW the recent digital reissue was actually dubbed straight from an old vinyl pressing.
