I have been thinning my CD collection out over the past year or so trying to keep just my ‘essential’ discs and, normally, I drop a few off at a local charity shop.
The time has come to thin out my Van Morrison selection but, after looking at availability and prices on Amazon, I am tempted to try and sell them off (for a fair but not greedy price) rather than just give them away. I can then put the money towards a new phone. if I go to a nearby ‘market stall’ I expect I’d be offered 50p or so in which case I would rather give them to the charity shop so can anyone suggest any site(s) that I could contact please?
Obviously there is EBay but, again, I’d probably get next to nothing for them!
Thanks for any (polite!) suggestions
‘Goin’ down by Avalon, down by Avalon, down to the Oxfam shop – gettin’ rid of the Van, gettin’ rid of the Van… gonna buy some potted herrings and danish pastries, Rancheros and pickled onions, duck a l’orange, duck a l’orange, down by Orangefield, Hyndford Street, Cypress Avenue, Sauchiehall Street, Cardif Arms Parks, Downing Street, Maida Vale, Maida Vale… in session for Kid Jensen with Keith Chegwin and Sidney Bechet, Sidney Bechet, playin’ R’n’B with Malcolm Muggeridge an’ Bamber Gascoigne, starterforten, starterforten, take me way back, take me way back…’
Put them on eBay ‘Buy It Now’ at a quid less than they go for on amazon, and I’m sure they’ll get snapped up.
I’ve been looking for a copy of Common One for a while on and off. Second hand prices are too rich for my pocket. Call me tight fisted if you like but I will not pay full price for second hand let alone some of the bloody daft prices quoted for new.
Good luck Daff.
If you want to get rid of lots of stuff with minimal effort, you could try Music Magpie.

They don’t pay fabulous prices, but they do at least collect from your door, or a box left outside if you wish.
Try Discogs.com to get a realistic idea of prices. Selling on there is a little more complicated than eBay but they take less of a cut and there is no relisting fee…your listings stay on there till someone makes you an offer.
Amazon listings are often put up by chancers…anything that isn’t readily available gets put up for silly prices and those aren’t the true market value…the resale value of most CDs is pretty miniscule unless they’re long out of catalogue, unavailable as digital downloads or exceptionally rare.
If you happen to chance across a copy of ‘Don’t Stand Me Down’ you don’t fancy, don’t hesitate to send it my way!
If you have a local CEX then they take CDs – and you can price check them online on their website in advance and you usually get what the price is.
the bin snouds about right by me
If you look up each CD on ebay and then tick the check box on the left hand side for completed items, you will see how much they actually sell for (prices in green) and which ones don’t sell (prices in black). For me this is the best indication of how much you are likely to get.
Drop me a line and I’ll make you a good offer for any of the Van catalogue I’m still looking for.
