I`ve just been playing my Mojo 2000 Light Years From Home covermount cd and this gem popped up from Sadies Expression. To my ears it sounds not unlike some late period A-ha track or something from one of Mortens solo efforts. Have we done a disservice to the Norwegian popstrels filing them under cheekbones and plinky plonky synths, when there was always a bit of early psych to their ouvre?

No reappraisal needed here. They get as much play in our house as anyone else. Great band.
And this…
This is majestic pop
U2 agreed with you…
Damn right. That was the one I was going to suggest. They were “on the up” at this point and on first listen you knew this was going to be massive.
Second album was a corker. “I’ve been losing you” and the very metal “Manhattan Skyline.”
Hunting High And Low. Third best song ever with “hunting” in its title.
Oh there’s a challenge… Pentangle and Tom Lehrer?
Ha! I didn’t intend it as a challenge, but by all means – keep ’em coming and we’ll see where we end up. 🙂
Didn’t A-Ha do a cover of the Everly Brothers’ “Cryin’ in the Rain”?
I seem to remember that was pretty good.
Yep. Morten’s vocal on it is astounding.
…and Morten Harket did this cover of a Graham Gouldman/Andrew Gold song
nice, not heard that
No reappraisal necessary. They were an incredible band. Most of the quote-unquote greats would’ve killed to have written their hits.
For maybe once in my life I am in total with Disappointing Bob, remembering with awe that TOTP when they first played out that video and that song. They took on me from that start, it still in my imaginary juke box list of records I would have on one, if I had one. (Any one else do that?) In truth I have heard little else. Maybe I should.
This album is a good place to start. A comeback of sorts but with a more mature vibe.
No one mentioned the obvious one? The Living Daylights. A brave and stunning Bond theme, up there with the best.
Here’s a re-appraisal: They are still shit.
Not a fan, then……
Not bothered one way or the other but just thought I would have a bit of a laugh.
A-Ha are everything I love about pop music but as is my default setting I only really know the hits and only own a best of. I may well use them to get out of by Bill Mackenzie maudlin mode. I’m going to start at the start so to speak. This is why I have learned to love Spotify
Late to this thread but they are a great band – who keep putting out, at worst, good albums with always a few cracking songs.
How about this one from the last album ‘Cast In Steel’

Or this from ‘Foot Of The Mountain’
The latest unplugged is nicely produced but suffers from guest appearances – I don’t need Alison Moyet appearing
