For the the neophytes, recalcitrants and unbelievers here is a playlist of largely less obvious Dylan tracks. It is chronological with the various changes in vocal style apparent.

Musings on the byways of popular culture
Nice choice of songs – I reckon you could do a similar list, say, 10 times at least…
Pity I can’t play Dylan in my house
“Once upon a time…”
“Switch that off NOW!!”
That would be grounds for divorce as far as I am concerned.
Marry me , ya marry Bob.
Noise cancelling headphones (for both maybe)
Sometimes I do just that. “You’re playing Dylan again, aren’t you?” I swear she can still hear him
Buckets of Rain, Junior.
Good list – great to see Never Say Goodbye there. Are you less a fan of folk Bob?
I was trying to veer away from the nasal side of things that so many people seem to not be able to get past. And to highlight the variety of ways he sings to counter some of the more outrageous assertions in the other thread.
The thing about Dylan is that he was so spontaneous in his recording and song selection for albums that his unreleased stuff is amongst his best. Hard to believe that Up to Me, Blind Willie McTell and obvs the Basement Tapes were passed over at the time.
Nice list Junior, I wonder why no one never includes ‘Abandoned Love’ in their Dylan lists, I consider it one of His Bobness’s greatest songs.
Yes it is a cracker. This list by no means definitive. I am hoping that a few people who haven’t delved into the catalogue, beyond the “ hits” or have dismissed to date, will maybe put it on and find a few things to their liking.
If nothing else this recent outbreak of Dylanology has reminded me of the treasure of Not Dark Yet, which is going on my funeral playlist (version tbc). My familiarity with 90s Dylan is patchy – like a lot of people I suppose, I drifted away after Desire. So I’m embarking on an intensive course – Boses to the ready of course, since Mrs thep is no Dylan fan either.
Onya Mike.
Of the more obscure beauties from Bob I especially enjoy Tell Ol’ Bill and Red River Shore. In fact I think Tell Tale Signs gets played as often as any album these days.
Also from Tell Tale Signs, can I throw in this version of Most of The Time? It’s extraordinary.
Probably the best box set of the lot that one.
Self Portrait for me – alchemy at its finest
Biggest surprise !
Probably. Though the first one, Vol 1-3 I think, that covered his whole career up to that point might have a claim. And Biograph still gets played regularly.
As a non-specialist, I find that I play Vols 1 – 3 more often that any other Dylan album.
Then Basement Tapes, Highway 61, JWH and Time Out of Mind in no particular order.
Well, yes that was the revelation of the whole concept. Blind Willie McTell first officially aired on that.
Worth the purchase price for that track alone.
I have one other version of Blind Willie McTell on an alternative Infidels bootleg – it is very different and also brilliant. Do you know if there are any more versions kicking around?
