I was at what turned out to be the last Rutles gig at Colchester Arts Centre. It was the first time I had seen them and Neil was in such good form that I had high hopes of catching them next time round. I had expected it to be a good night (you know – amiable, good songs, old hands who know how to put on a show – that sort of thing), I hadn’t expected them to be such a great band, or for 74 year old Neil Innes to put on such a fantastic show for two and a half hours.
I last saw the Rutles a couple of years ago. The were great, as always. And Neil gave a very tender and moving version of All Things Must Pass. This is NYC, rather than Putney, but it’s the best version I could find on YouTube

I usually see them live in June, but unfortunately with Ron’s death last year this was not to be.
Thanks Ron for the music,

Neil’s final bow

That’s gotta go down as the last ever picture ever of Neil Innes ever taking a bow.
