It may be the end of the world as we know it, but that doesn’t stop Michael Stipe posting a beautiful new song demo to keep us going……. according to the YouTube post this is the first take – he’s still got it.

Wow, based even on that demo, he definitely has still got it. Heartfelt and understated, with a nice early 90’s Automatic For The People type vibe.

When the Massive put someone’s name in a heading could we please add ‘(not dead)’ after it? I would prevent some unpleasant reactions before I’ve even had my coffee.

I had that mild panic, too.

Do you mean like this?
Count Dracula (Not dead). Sadly I have no news from ,y favourite Transylvanian
Anyway, maybe (Undead) works better in that case?
That new Stipe song is a cracker! Thanks!

Lovely song and sentiment, and that Michael Stipe smile at the end is just the tonic for this damp and dreary Tuesday morning. I do tend to get distracted by the background details – that colour scheme (sea foam green?) is a bold statement. Did he use gloss or satin? There’s a small gap visible above the outside door. Would a weatherstrip help? etc.

Wonderful. I love that band – only yesterday I pulled out the IRS vinyls of the glory years and had a wallow – it’s so good to hear his head can still go to that same place and come up with a great big soppy sing-along anthem like this. File under grain. Top man.

A big thumbs-up for the song.
As you say, the great man has still got it.
What a phenomenal outfit REM were.
