Ladies and gentlemen I propose a toast to long-standing Word/Afterword blogger Beany who today has reached a significant birthday with a zero after it. In honour of his lifelong ambition to acquire the most tasteless record collection on the planet, let’s salute the emeritus professor of pap with some truly dreadful records. If anyone can find one he hasn’t got in his collection I’ll be very surprised but there is your challenge. I’m sure he’s got several copies of this one: N.b this isn’t the original Bucks Fizz that’d be too easy, it’s David Van Day’s “Bucks Fizz” with a specially ‘updated’ version of Making Yr Mind Up. Bleee…

Happy Big One, Beany. I hope you can still Get Down To Business like Gary. This selection is Slippin Around.

This is it then, the most rubbish record I’ve ever owned. The late unlamented Faze One. Embarrassing tripe. To be fair, this was on a single given away with the otherwise pretty good Streetsounds Electro 15, so I didn’t actually choose to own it, and the Marly Marl track on the other side was listenable, if unremarkable. But this is remarkable in its tuppenny crapniss.
Listen out* for the bloke who starts barracking them half way through. I’m on his side.
(*See what I did there! I pretended like someone was actually going to listen to this!)

The esteemed Beany introduced me to Big Big Train, 2 years ago. Since then, I have fallen in love with the band. Thank you, dear Beany. You made an old man very, very happy.
Here is the aforementioned….

Happy Birthday. I really do hope that this is suitable.
When I was in Spain in the mid-80s, this song seemed to be everywhere. It has a cartoon character link which might mean it already rests on your shelves. It is of course Northern Ireland’s own Baltimora – yes! – the “Tarzan Boy” hitmaker! This was the follow up that continental Europe made a massive hit but passed by the UK charts.

Three cheers for Beany!
Or cuckoo! as Swedish “singer” Jokkmokks-Jokke would shout:
And let Mr Arne Quick present you with a rose on your birthday:
Classic! The speaking section is wonderfully appalling!

Nothing but the best for Beany!
This pearl of Eurovision should do the trick. Dschingis Khan by …Dschingis Khan.

I expect he’s still sleeping off last night’s excesses, but I dare say he’ll be inspired by this lovely thread to rifle through his exotic record collection later on. Happy Birthday, Beanster!

I think the 2nd year of your 7th decade warrants something more portentous than yer usual lightweight. Here’s some grown up music:

A mate turned up with 3 LPs he sourced from a local charity shop. He thought I might already have a copy of Stewpot’s Pop Party LP. I had to admit to owning 4 copies. Ultimate naffness. Here is the side one introduction – I need to post all of this LP somewhere for all to appreciate.

Here’s some really naff Prog for you old chum
I bought this album when it was released because Bill Bruford drums on it. What the hell was he thinking?!
As it’s your bidet, you are allowed to listen to The Scottish Band and even tap a toe.
Beany says
Oh that was a “lovely” CD. Did you buy it from a garden centre? It would fit nicely alongside howling wolves, whale songs and waterfall music. @james-blast

Dreadful. Wasn’t it. Isn’t it.
Standard.

I suggest the inauguration of a new term in honour of the Beanster and his insatiable lust for premium-grade vinyl manure – namely SEB (Shite Enough for Beany).
Espying a particularly ropey lookiing MfP compilation in a Sue Ryder shop one might be heard to mutter “Cor, that’s SEB if ever I saw it”
Here’s something that is undoubtedly SEB.

Crikey blimey. That even looks ‘orrible!
I try to visit charity shops most days and fit in a trip whenever I visit an area. Last year I went to distant funerals and arrived early so I could snap up a few bargains. Most shops sell vinyl for mere pennies so I am always happy to buy unknown recordings in search of a beaut tune. This one is an example of an LP that has gone “viral” on my Soundcloud account. 231 listens to date. Some people have taste.
Keep them coming boys and girls x

My Torero Band collection is now complete (I’m giving Tijuana Nursery Rhymes and Tijuana Hymns a swerve).
