I went to see Kelly Willis at the Maze last Wednesday, part of her UK Tour. I will try and post a review. Did anyone else catch her at all or is this a very minority taste?

I went to see Roseanne Cash in Bristol. John Leventhal is an extraordinarily good guitar player.

Saw Kelly in Edinburgh. Splendid gig: she was in great voice and the band was very empathetic.
Good selection of songs, too, from her various albums.
I haven’t seen her gig with a band in a long time so it was a treat to have her play in town.

David Hepworth (formerly of this parish) has been raving about her, “my favourite living singer” and the like, so you can’t get more Afterword-friendly than that…

I loved her first album but haven’t heard much since. I have a feeling I bought the second one but can’t remember it… Must check.

I would have liked to have gone, but some genius promoter decided to put her London date on the same night that Rosanne Cash was playing, for whom we had already bought tickets.
Her new album Back Being Blue is a big favourite in our house.
@Twang, I suspect you are thinking of her fourth album, What I Deserve, which was I believe her first album to be released in the UK, after she had switched labels to Rykodisc.
Twang says
You are right @carl, it’s WIB. I also have “Easy”. Giving them a lis right now – lovely.

She was great when I saw her about 10 days ago at Gateshead Sage in a double bill with Emily Barker, who was also very good, Kelly had a trio who had played on her noo album, including an excellent band leader called Geoff Queen who was terrific on Les Paul and no slouch on pedal steel. I had never heard of him before. If you saw him in your local supermarket you wouldn’t have him down as a hot picker. But I guess there are loads of people in Austin / Nashville who can play like that. The Mastersons were in the hall and Eleanor got up to sing on one song
