Before I clicked the link I thought this might be jukebox musical of his songs. I’m not a great fan, in fact I like his songs more than the Bruce persona which this seems designed to highlight, but hats off to him for playing an extended run in a small venue like this.
It’s an interesting move for him. Presumably, at this stage, it’d be easier for him to do a Billy Joel style residency with the E Streeters somewhere and let the masses make their way to see him. Instead, this seems to have a lot more consideration than that (I note that the press release includes reference to the lighting, sound and scenic design ‘creative team’). So perhaps there’ll be more to it than Bruce just showing up every night, throwing on a pair of authentically distressed jeans and banging out Promised Land to a chorus of whoops and hollers.
As a long-time Bruce fan though I’d be interested if these shows came with a new release of some kind. Bruce has been talking about an album he’s had ready to go for a while now but still, it hasn’t seen the light of day. Although there’s been lots of Bruce activity over the last 5 years (tours, River box set, the High Hopes ‘bits and pieces’ album, his autobiography and the Hammersmith RSD release – not to mention the Outlaw Pete kids book!) there hasn’t been an album of new (as in recently written) songs since March 2012. Be nice to hear what he’s been doing lately.
That’s not to say I haven’t registered for the ticket sale though!
Looks like it’s going to be a “Storyteller” type evening with Bruce taking us through his career (and book) with songs and monologues. I am seeing Graham Nash do a similar thing also in October.
Mmm, we’re off to New York at the end of October, but we’ll have the kids with us. Doubt very much that an evening with Bruce Springsteen features much in their plans!

I always preferred Springy with a band live.
Edit: I didn’t want to say this but what the hell, I saw Springy solo in Paris and I fell asleep!
