To be honest, although there seems to be a lot in the ‘package’, I imagine that it’ll be competitively priced, to target the casual fans who bought it first time round and will pick it up alongside their groceries, as much as the die-hards. They’ll be looking to maximise profits, and will need to hit the market quick and hard to do so.
As I’m sure you’ve all noticed, his albums are now available on Spotify.
I’ve been listening to their Prince playlist and is it me, or are many of the older tracks on there in some kind of updated, remixed or extended versions? I’ve been turning my head many times when a well-known classic suddenly sounds very different from my old album copies.
As a matter of interest, can anyone think of a an album released in the 80s that has been reissued in a remastered or remixed form that sounds significantly better or even different than the original? I can think of lots of examples from the 60s and 70s but not so much from the 80s.
I have a really nice vinyl copy of Purple Rain. US pressing. It sounds fantastic. I can’t imagine that the remastering will add to this.
Great question. I was listening to the remaster of Japan’s Tin Drum earlier today. It is no great shakes.
The exception must be Steve Wilson’s XTC remasters. They sound a whole lot better & different, spectacularly so. The trouble is, they have revealed to me that I don’t actually like XTC much, apart from Drums & Wires obviously.
There are some real surprises in there amongst the long-overdue remixes etc. Of course, some diehards are not happy because it doesn’t go far/deep enough for them.
Finally, here’s the full, official run-down of what’s coming on June 23rd. Not quite the full ‘two CDs of unreleased material, 2 DVD package’ as previously reported, but unlike the usual quota of entitled whingers, I’m pretty damned excited about this and have already pre-ordered.
Has anyone ever thought Prince ballsed up the production? They always sounded fantastic. The concert footage is what interests me. Plus I’d love say a triple disc of covers either live or at Paisley Park.

Very much looking forward to this. The price tag, not so much…

The movie was on the box over the weekend, and I’d forgotten quite how enjoyable it is.
Music doesn’t get much better than this, does it?
dai says
Really? My memory of it was that it was truly terrible (apart from music of course)
