Well it does beg questions about the word ‘live’ and the £250 ticket price etc. However the Eagles have been known as a beacon of value and integrity for decades now and clearly their brand will take a massive knock.
I think it’s fairly well known that acts with an energetic dance element (Madonna for example) need some ‘vocal support;’ as you can’t be doing cartwheels and pirouettes and also belting out crystal-pure lead vocals. Don more the old man standing still vibe though.
As everyone else has or will think or say, the fact that they are charging such obscene amounts for tickets to see a “live” show means it matters a hell (freezes over) of a lot.
Happily, like most posters here I’m not stupid enough to pay those kind of prices.
I saw Kris Kristofferson 5 years ago. At the time I wrote this:
“And then to KK. His voice is deeper and more gravelly. A little less force, but when it comes with force, it’s effective. One of my standouts was the idea that when he’s delivering the world weary songs (and yes, I think Sunday Morning is one of those) it sounds so…lived in and authentic. The man has lived every word and experience in that song. Bobby McGee sounds like a man looking back on life experiences. If you listen to the show through the “living legend and old man” filters, it’s great.”
I don’t expect older singers to still have the same voice that they had. But if you purport to play live, then play fucking live and adapt.
I agree! I love the timbre of a failing voice, provided the singer has awareness and can adapt. Robert Plant is the obvious example, but Martin Carthy offers another, a further decade on.
Can’t be bothered watching? Don Henley is miming to his own voice live
As an aside, ^ Bobby Gillespie’s looking well
That’s Nigel Tufnel, as any fule kno.

@mosleymoles
He’s been standing still in a musical sense since about 1975
Mmm, I think Perfect Beast was a definitively 80s album, very much the morning after the 70s.
I will add only two further words to this thread: Roger Waters.

Not even for the support act?
Love the Dan but not at those prices.
Stray aren’t that good
They come to my house to play a gig. Respect.
Stray are very good or were. Please don’t tell me they are miming too?
Really? The band that put out the most famously overdubbed live album in history 45 years ago can’t hit the harmonies live in 2024?
Frankie Valli everybody…

Maybe this is the right place to post this (or do we need yet another Bob Thread?) – Bob’s good tonight, isn’t he?
Wonderful isnt it.? Gives it so much space, and the piano to the fore, quite a quirky style to these uneducated ears.
