What does it sound like?:
At just 37 minutes long, this album is something of a palette cleanser between Wilson’s fourth album and the as yet unrecorded fifth.
The six tracks on offer include three instrumental pieces, and the album is bookended by two long pieces, both of which comprise a mixture of studio and live performance.
Four of the songs are offcuts from the Hand.Cannot.Erase sessions, while one dates back to the sessions for The Raven That Refused To Sing album. The remaining track, Don’t Hate Me, is a reworking from the 2015 tour of the song on the 1998 Porcupine Tree album Stupid Dream, but performed as a duet with Ninet Tayeb.
The Blu ray version adds various alternate versions, instrumentals and the 2015 version of Lazarus.
What does it all *mean*?
Having listened to this album a good deal over the past couple of months, it is certainly a worthwhile purchase for Wilson fans. Obviously, being effectively an expanded EP, it is not a complete and cohesive work of the type he usually offers up, but nevertheless there is much to enjoy here.
Goes well with…
Other Wilson solo albums or Porcupine Tree albums.
Release Date:
Might suit people who like…
Rock music with a progressive edge to it.
Thanks Bargepole, looking forward to this (although also annoyed that you have a week before release !!).
Got my shipping notification from Burning Shed yesterday, so should be with me in a week.
I think I ordered this, but can’t remember. *checks emails*
I still have a spare ticket for Hammersmith gig on Wed 27th Jan. You will have to sit ‘
@twang but apart from that should be a good night. Seriously a deserving Afterworder can have this ticket for a nominal fee so drop me a line if interested
I don’t think you’re likely to find a taker for your Steven Wilson ticket here. I suggest you sell it on Seatwave or Twickets (on Twitter). Or outside on the night.
Woke up earlier than necessary this morning. I immediately remembered that today is Steven Wilson release day. CD is on its way but downloads and streams (not Spotify) are available.
4 1/2 is a Damm fine piece of work at 5 AM I can tell you. If those buggers in the train unions allow and cancel the tube strike, I’m looking forward to seeing the man himself in London on Wednesday perform it live.
Tube strike? What? FFS!
