This time it is a shuffle-style mp3 player with Bluetooth and – the USP – a magnetic head to play in cassette decks.

Apropos the Irritating Names thread, I tend to be averse to anything that presents two consecutive Xs.
Three, on the other hand…

Bizarre – I know people have been finding that a well-fettled cassette deck can sound better than they remember (part of a broader analogue revival, I suppose)….but this just seems weird….

You’ve been able to purchase similar devices, without Bluetooth, for some time.
The Techmoan video blog featured one in this video last year (WARNING- contains 8-tracks!)

There must still be cars with tape players. Will this allow you to add bluetooth to your car without a messy lighter socket, aux lead combination?

I’ve had a look and… no, it won’t. The BT is for connecting to speakers. From the FAQ:
“Can I connect my smartphone to MIXXTAPE via Bluetooth and play it in a tape deck?
MIXXTAPE only plays audio from the microSD card”
I think they’ve missed a trick, there.

Potentially very useful for the few people left with car cassette players that can’t be upgraded (because they are integrated into the car’s electronics like in my previous Saab 9-3).
Otherwise just another disposable hipster item of very limited appeal.

My car still has a cassette player, which can also be linked to my ipod / device via a lead from an adapted cassette. Living in the space age baby!
