The Venue announced before the show that the gig started at 8pm sharp and finished at 9.30pm. £65 for a one and half hour show left me questioning value for money. However from the off it was clear this show was going to be of the highest quality. The band were excellent throughout and there were great new arrangements of many songs. Highlights for me were Carrying a torch, In the Garden and a wonderfully jazzy Moondance. Throughout the interplay between Van’s sax and the trumpet player were a delight. Obviously the between song chatter was not existent but we counted 3 thank yous and several smiles so the old curmudgeon was clearly in a good mood and enjoying the sounds the band were making. As well he should astray were first class. A rousing Gloria ended a fabulous night, the band whining out after Van had left the stage. We even got 10 extra minutes after announced finish!!
Very respectful – there was even a couple slow dancing at the front when they played Have I told you.
On their feet at the end amid rousing applause.
It made me think..
Gigs don’t always have to be of Springsteenesque duration to be top entertainment. Theft the gig was in Liverpool and my car was in Wigan meant a 9.40 finish still enabled me to get back to Lichfield 5 minutes shy of midnight. At my age I need my beauty sleep. Great company from the Baron and Stabbers as usual.
