Having already written a biography of Axl Rose a few years back, Mick Wall, immortalised in the song Get In The Ring, now tackles the full story of Guns N Roses.
This is a hefty book, covering each member’s early life in some detail, before moving on to the formation of the group, covering their early years right through to the pinnacle of success and excess, and their eventual disintegration.
This is followed by an account of the torturous gestation of the Chinese Democracy album by the Axl led band, recounted alongside the parallel career of Velvet Revolver featuring the other remaining original band members.
A happy ending eventually follows of course, with the reformation of the band’s most successful line up for a lucrative US reunion tour.
Wall’s time as a leading journalist with Kerrang magazine during the band’s heyday stands him in good stead here, and as usual he has produced a well-written, easily readable book.
