I updated itunes at the end of last week, and perhaps co-incidentally playcount has stopped working completely. Nothing being recorded in the playcount column. Any thoughts on how to solve this? Yes have done a basic google and nothing recent that provides a how-to would appear to be on the apple help forums or similar.
So The Stranglers are touring the land of Aus in the new year, so I wondered if anyone here’s seen them lately and whether it’s going to be worth going ? Any thoughts from the Massive ?
Hi all. I’m trying to get rid of some old kit from the Hospital Radio station I help at. I know the above is an XLR male/female cable, but it’s a bit unusual, and I wondered what it could be used for. Any ideas would be gratefully received (would help me write an ebay listing for it at the very least).
Thanks in advance!
Have we done a Steve Hackett best-of recommendations or where to start clip-fest ? I can’t find one.
Anyway, many moons ago (early 90s I’m referring to here) there was a Saturday sports show on Ch9 in Oz, the Wide World of Sports. It was as tedious as it’s UK brethren I can assure you. But every now and then there’d be something of niche interest that hit the spot, and there was a surfing video which to the best of my knowledge had a Hackett track as the soundtrack which I could never place. Probably because I was completely wrong, but what the hey…could have easily been Steve Hillage or Steve Coogan given my general lack of awareness at the time (and since).
So there have been many Hackett reviews and references round these parts, almost as much love as RT, so what’s the good oil ? What’s the G.O. ? Where should I start on Youtube ?
Does anyone else find that when they play videos on websites their iPad then stops playing videaos at all, whether on Safari in the YouTube app or whatever? Mine has been doing that for a couple of months now and it’s becoming a real pain.
The solution to getting videos running again is simple enough (go to settings and reset all) but a) I then have to reset the wifi, the password and other settings as well as passwords on sites like this (I’ve got it all down to a couple of minutes now but it’s a hassle I could live without) and b) when I have done that it will only be a few days before video crashes again and I have repeat all the resets.
So I’ve fitted this spiffy new wheel on my wheelbarrow, and the valve is completely inaccessible with foot pump or bicycle pump – it’s too short to wrangle outwards like I did with the old wheel, and there’s isn’t enough space between the fancy go-faster mouldings of the wheel to connect vertically.
I’m thinking a right-angle adaptor. There are lots online, but they’re all for motorbikes, quad bikes etc. Will they fit? Are all valves the same diameter? Etc.? Anybody got any experience of such arcana?
I’m looking for some advice.
I’m moving house and the the gaff has a much smaller living room/ parlour/ drawing room/ sitting room than this one. I’m still keen to keep my hi-fi (turntable, amp and speakers) in that room but the floor standing speakers I have will overwhelm it and the cables are going to be a nightmare.
1. I know small modern speakers can pack a punch. Can anyone recommend some – floor standing or bookshelf? The room is 4.8m x4.0m.
2. What about blu tooth speakers? Any good? I’ve only ever seen single ones. Although sounding great – kind of defeats the object of a “stereo”.
Any advice/ recommendations/ chat gratefully received.
Perhaps due to retaining my two ton Trinitron until relatively recently, I appear to have used an inappropriate cleaning technique on my LCD telly screen, i.e. Mr Muscle Glass Cleaner sprayed directly on to the screen wiped off with kitchen towel. Screen not ruined but there is a distinct and persistent smear visible more in some ambient conditions than others. Any ideas if this is permanent?
Can anyone explain what the Ethernet ports are for on a mains extension socket? Googling this returns plenty of results about power line networking but nothing about an Ethernet port on a standard 8-way extension lead.
Have £100 xmas money burning a hole in my pocket. Strongly tempted to splurge on a Nespresso machine. Why?
Consistency Ease of trying new variations Would drink max 14 cups a week so buying beans and keeping them fresh doesn’t appeal
Yes I know the Aeropress is the way to go but I have had one for a while and rarely used it.
I’m open to suggestions of other pod machines – Dolce Gusto, Tassimo etc.
A word of warning – I know next to nowt about Bluetooth.
The old iPod Classic (6th generation) isn’t getting the use it once was, primarily because my commute is shorter these days and going to and from work was when I used it most.
I would like to be able to use it more at home/in the garden and have given thought to buying a dock, but it would appear that it is possible to but a Bluetooth iPod transmitter and then play it through a Bluetooth speaker. This option would appear to allow me to maintain my couch potato lifestyle, rather than having to get up when I want a change.
I’ve done a bit of reading and there is the suggestion that not all iPod transmitters are compatible with all speakers. Given my lack of Bluetooth knowledge, I don’t know if this is the case or not.
I’m after a fairly compact speaker and the Cambridge Go wireless speaker has caught my eye. Would this connect to any iPod transmitter I buy or do I need to buy a particular make.
Any help and advice (or other potential options) gratefully received.
So it seems I’m off to SF in a couple of weeks for a week-long tech conference which I’m not desperately interested in, but hey ho, gift horses in the mouth and all that. What would anyone recommend? Likes: food, drink, sport, people, tunes, books, getting to feel the soul of a place. Many thanks in advance.
Inspired by @attackdog ‘s post on Scottish Music Hall singers, can anyone shed light on a remembered music hall moment that is driving me crazy as I can find no evidence for it out there. As I remember it, heard on Radio 2 or 4 in the seventies, it was a song sung by Arthur Askey to the tune of In the Hall of the Mountain King. To that ner ner nerner nanna na tune he sung the words
Mother owned a coffee shop, coffee shop, coffee shop Mother owned a coffee shop In Portobello Road
Now, it may not be Askey. It may not be exactly those words. Can anyone help?
The glaring lack of many works by The Man on Spotify sent me back to iTunes recently, in the hope of adding to my existing “best of”, assembled a good 10 years ago.
Unfortunately, he’s pretty unrepresented on there as well these days, so I’ve spent the last week listening to the further reaches of his back catalogue and ripping the odd find to iTunes.
So, now my best of is a good 50 songs long, covering as many of the veteran R&B grump’s Caledonian soul stompers, Celtic reveries and metaphysical musings as I could find.
But it’s too late to stop now. I fear there must be some deep cuts that I’ve missed. Or perhaps you could help me rearrange the running order so that the GLW doesn’t insist that I turn it off whenever we get into the more “difficult” likes of Rave On, John Donne. Maybe some of his recent records are under-represented (The Healing Game seems quite good).
So, here’s my work in progress. What more needs to be done? (I’m assuming it won’t be improved by any of the forthcoming duets with Hucknall and the like). Strangely, the Guardian’s music site hasn’t covered » Continue Reading.
Sound quality trumps price, unless we’re talking silly money of course. Any personal recommendations, audiophiles?
My trusty old 120gb Classic IPod is like a pensioner. Its forgetting stuff, stopping every 5 or six songs for a sit down and won’t communicate with my music library anymore. Basically it’s shotgun behind the chicken shed time. And as the recent cessation of manufacture by Apple has driven prices to sillybolllocks levels getting another secondhand on Fleabay is a no-no
Is there a decent alternative? I rely on the big bastard for my frequent road trips round the country so, yes, I do need 17,000 songs at my disposal whilst on the mooove.
All suggestions gratefully received ect
My car stereo has broke and can’t really afford to get a new one that does what I want right now. I have used my Kindle on the dashboard today and it is fine for driving around town but when on the motorway its just not loud enough to get over the road noise. Can anyone recommend a portable speaker that could be good to use in the car for my Kindle and I-phone.
Cheers – Joe
