A good friend sent me this via Classic Rock.
I’m not a huge Rush fan but three or four of their 80’s albums still do it for me. Subdivisions has me playing Air Keyboards like a good un whereas Limelight is just a corker.
They were, will never be cool and my none more hip friends don’t get it but I love 80’s Rush!
Great photo with mullets and a Steinberger too!

Never mind the 80s, what about the 70s? At the time, I had one stoner mate who would play Rush to death. I remember listening to this off Farewell to Kings at full volume in his 2 x 2 M bedroom past midnight, with his mum banging on the ceiling.
She gave up after a bit and came up with tea and toast. God bless her.

By the way the bit from 8.30 onward? Compare with this:

Rush ends for me with Moving Pictures – and the live summary Exit Stage Left. I have every subsequent live album and God knows I’ve tried to like the ‘highlights’ of what followed ESL. But whilst I love their developing sense of humour, musicianship and camaraderie, their music divides neatly for me between 2112-Moving Pictures – flawless, thrilling, engaging and fluent and Signals and everything that follows it – wrong, wrong and furthermore wrong.

Nooooooooo. Signals is ace! Grace under Pressure is ok and Power Windows perhaps their indie album. After that not much apart from that Aimee Mann track Time Stands Still off Hold your fire.
I really really have to be in the mood for their 70’s stuff, By Tor ! Sorry @bigjimbob

Don’t worry I’m not really a fan. That tune is just a Remembrance of Times Past.

It’s a myth that 80s Rush isn’t up to scratch. Apart from anything else, Moving Pictures is itself an 80s album. Show Don’t Tell, for example (see below)
My current favourite though is 21st Century Rush. Vapor Trails and Clockwork Angels are both aces.

Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures are my two favourite Rush albums. I did endure Signals at the time but really lost interest after that. The 1980s stuff in that top ten is okay (i.e. the stuff not on those first two albums) but I am afraid I am not really familiar with much after that.
