In September the Royal Papworth Hospital, home of the world’s first heart and lung transplants, is moving to the Addenbrookes hospital site, after 100 years. This year’s village fete is going back to its roots and will be held in the Capability Brown-designed hospital grounds. Entry is free.
I’m running the music marquee again this year, with a full day’s lineup. I’m sharing the marquee with The Papworth Brewery. Why not bring a picnic blanket and make a day of it?
10:00 grand opening from Sue Marchant (BBC Radio Cambridgeshire)
10:15 Sing Papworth – choir
11:00 Oli Mansell – teenage ukulele virtuoso
12:00 Frenzy – youthful power-pop/punkers
13:00 Ermine Street Band – chamber wind dectet
14:30 Helen & The Neighbourhood Dogs – “East Angliacana” pop-folk band featuring @Skirky
15:45 Oldskool – twin-lead guitar band featuring @Twang
Set your SatNav to CB23 3RD.
Come and say “hello” to the bloke with the headphones on, sweating over a hot mixing desk.
I’d love to, but have E.C. and the Waterboys instead and I had to pay for that. (Not meant either to be a sarky remark, it sounds a hoot a a good call/cause.)
I’m going to be very sad when the hospital moves out, it has been like living next door to a National Trust estate. The wards will all be knocked down in time and turned into another housing estate, and the Victorian Hall will become executive flats.
If I’d had major organ surgery – steading on, Moose – I’d much rather recover there than Addenbrookes in busy Cambridge.
Blimey, Dave, won’t that be a busman’s holiday? You’re welcome to join us.
If we can get @drakeygirl to join us, there will be four Afterworders in one place. It’ll be like the four horsemen.
I’ll be rigging from 7:30am, which would mean a very early start from yours. We’ll be breaking down straight after at 5pm, then off to the after-party ceidlidh in the village hall. If my middle-aged back allows, after a day on my feet, anyhow.
