Moose the Mooche says
First three Kraftwerk albums. Ralf & Florian in particular. Ralf H will have to cark it before that happens, sadly.
My other nomination is Top’s Emotion Lotion. There probably isn’t enough for two discs.
minibreakfast says
Nice boom box.
Moose the Mooche says
*flutters eyelashes*
You noticed.
minibreakfast says
Appetite For Destruction, of course.
I’m sure Tigger will second that.
Moose the Mooche says
The People Who Grinned Themselves to Death, shirley!
I think we’ve had this discussion.
Did you hear about old Gerry Rafferty?
Markg says
My second thought is Caravanserai by Santana, and thirdly Late for the Sky by Jackson Browne…
Carl says
Definitely Caravanserai.
I have never understood why nothing else from those sessions has eve appeared. I’m sure there must be hours of stuff.
I’ve heard some bootlegged out-takes, but that was half an hour of mostly Song Of The Wind.
Thee is another bootleg session out there that claims to be taken from the session, but if you’re half familiar with the album, they clearly aren’t.
Junior Wells says
half an hour of song of the wind? – that’s me after a curry
but, seriously folks, heartily endorse both those. In fact most of Jackson Browne’s warrant it.
Rigid Digit says
20 years old this year – Oasis: Be Here Now.
I don’t think it was bloated enough first time round. There must be more directionless cocaine haze infused folly in the vaults.
Moose the Mooche says
Any one of the “150 NG songs better than anything by the Beatles” that Liam promised us in 1994 will be fine.
…drumming my fingers….
Markg says
True…the only time I ever bought a CD at 9 am on day of issue….rushed home and felt so cheated to hear that collection…only rated Don’t go away …but would nominate The Masterplan as best collection of B-sides ,has that been done as a thread…?
Rigid Digit says
Nomination seconded.
Like The Jam they kept good stuff back for B Sides.
Stay Young was intended for the album, but dumped in favour of Magic Pie.
How drug addled must someone’s mind be to make a decision like that
fatima Xberg says
err…. Like this?

Rigid Digit says
Iron Maiden Live After Death could easily be expanded with the full Long Beach and Hammersmith shows.
Iron Maiden’s back catalogue is rife for remastering and enormo-boxing.
I’d buy it (although EMI would probably need more than one guaranteed sale to proceed)
davebigpicture says
I’m sure the Japanese and Germans would be enthusiastic buyers too. During the time before A Matter of Life and Death it was the foreign markets that really kept Maiden going.
Tiggerlion says
Blood On The Tracks
Young Americans
Toy
Dream Factory
Bob Marley Live (on CD)
Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers Live
Goats Head Soup
Burial Untrue
The Four Seasons – Who Loves You
Gaucho
minibreakfast says
The first of those is in the works.
Tiggerlion says
They’ve been saying that since 1980.
Black Type says
Haven’t they kind of done YA with last year’s boxset including The Gouster?
Tiggerlion says
Yerrbut. I want them to do it properly.
Tiggerlion says
I forgot The Rooftop Concert.
Moose the Mooche says
First Public Enemy album… seems to be the Ralf & Florian of hip hop. Nobody cares.
Moose the Mooche says
….and come on, let’s have a big fuckoff Sign O The Times/Crystal Ball etc box.
Tiggerlion says
That’s what I meant by Dream Factory. Prince post Parade and pre Lovesexy could fill at least ten CDs.
SteveT says
Another vote for Sign O the Times.
Also Remain in Light
Paul Simon Still Crazy
Los Lobos How will the wolf survive?
Black Type says
Not forgetting Roadhouse Garden.
deramdaze says
The Beatles’ albums.
Template to use…..The Kinks’ albums.
Mop up the Anthology tracks, include mono and stereo, the 45s and E.P.s, and, on the appropriate L.P. (“With the Beatles,” “Beatles for Sale,” “Rubber Soul” being the first three), affix the Xmas fan club recordings.
2-CDs each, just like The Kinks, apart from the 3-CD White Album, just like The Kinks’ 3-CD “Village Green Preservation Society.”
Get Ray Davies to do the sleeve notes!
Getthenet says
Good shout in Live and Direct. “Know what Live an’ Direct mean ? Mean Live an’ Direct”
Markg says
Thanks, and did you see the 52 min clip of them at Glastonbury in 1982?Also love the six track Showcase album, contains Warrior Charge etc..
Markg says
NigelT says
Santana’s Abraxas. They did double disc sets of 1 and 3 – I can only assume there isn’t enough in the way of material…?
Markg says
There was an expanded edition with some live tracks on,one disc only.
NigelT says
Yep, got that – they put them all out as single cds with extra tracks, then the 2 disc versions mentioned above came along….but no Abraxas, which seems odd.
Markg says
Just had a look at price of the Abraxas Pool cd….I like it but wouldn’t pay the 74 quid that Amazon want! Managed to get it for fifty less than that a few years ago ….
Markg says
Chrisf says
If we are talking Steven Wilson remaster / Hi Resolution / 5.1 mix and a few extra tracks, then Kate Bush / Hounds Of Love would be top of my list. There were a few extra tracks on the EMI 100 years edition. Somehow, being Ms Bush, I can’t see it happening,
If we are just talking expanded editions (but I would like a remastered sound) then I’d love to see something done with the early Joe Jackson albums. There never seems to have been any “extras” released for any of his stuff and the early album CDs are pretty basic (and have a pretty weak sound).
duco01 says
Hüsker Dü
Steven Wilson should be brought in to work his magic on:
Zen Arcade
New Day Rising
Flip Your Wig
Candy Apple Grey
Kid Dynamite says
Yes, brilliant albums let down by a nasty trebly sound. Celebrated Summer should be one of the great alt-rock anthems, like Freak Scene.
Carl says
I’d love to hear a Super De-Luxe edition of Lucinda William’s Essence.
And another version of Steve Winwood’s Arc Of A Diver including the missing Viv Stanshall tracks (see thread on 1st Winwood album) this time.
Arch Stanton says
The first four Roxy Music amazingly haven’t been given the bells and whistles treatment.
Mike_H says
Live Stiffs.
There must surely be more material stashed away somewhere from that first Stiff Records tour. What was released came from recordings at 3 different venues, so what happened to the rest of it?
NigelT says
Oh yes, good call! I saw that tour as well….
Mike_H says
The Pastorius Years. A big ol’ Weather Report box featuring absolutely everything that Jaco had a hand in.
Markg says
Can I mention first Dire Straits album….regaining Street cred with Grand Prix and Swoon…
NigelT says
I think you just about got away with it….close call…
Markg says
Phew….can I add Hejira and On the Beach and call it a draw!
Moose the Mooche says
Oh dear. You mentioned Hejira. You don’t know what you’ve done. All I can say is… enjoy it while you still can.
Markg says
Didn’t realise that a cardinal sin was to like jazzy Joni! Looking forward to comments as to why this album isn’t rated…do we all have to like Blue and keep pure?!!
minibreakfast says
It’s very highly rated, especially by tigger, who likes to get jiggy to it. Sorry if you were about to have dinner….
Markg says
I think the expression is ..too much information…!
minibreakfast says
That was the general consensus! 🙂
Tiggerlion says
The ladies find it irresistible.
I’ll have to go into training if they release a deluxe box set. I’m at an age when it’s a struggle to last one side of vinyl (in old money). I guess 3 CDs provides plenty of time for prolonged foreplay. Come to think of it, I’m all in favour.
More Hejira please.
Moose the Mooche says
Seriously, can the rest of us not club together and get some kind of court order about this!?
As it is I’ve paid Derren Brown my life savings to train me to play mind tricks on myself while Hejira is on so I can actually enjoy it the way I used to before it was polluted by Tigger’s libidinous reminiscences.
Enough I say.
minibreakfast says
*pushes hot cross bun to one side*
Markg says
OK any fans of Bobby Womack,The Poet 2 being my nomination…caught him live in Olympic Dublin thank goodness he was good!
Moose the Mooche says
First two Poet albums absolutely top… very much a light in the darkness in the 80s. And Poet 1’s cover is one of the best guitar perv shots ever!
Markg says
Do you recall Patti Labelle on the US Live aid show and what she wore….frightening, but what a voice and went with BW so well…
Tiggerlion says
How many Poet albums are there?
Morrison says
There’s a Poet III – which has outtakes from Poets I and II – that came out in the late 80s. Bit patchy compared to the earlier works – what isn’t… – but includes a great version of this.
The Beverly Glen label was strange – a short but peerless run of superb albums – Anita Baker’s “The Songstress”, the Poets and Johnny Taylor’s “Just Ain’t Good Enough” – and wonderful production from the likes of Patrick Moten before imploding amidst tales of missing money and general shenanigans.
Tiggerlion says
The production may be wonderful but it is still very eighties, albeit not as eighties as Anita Baker’s later Rapture. When the Poets first came out, I thought they were the best Soul music I’d ever heard. Listening to them today, I’m less enamoured.
Moose the Mooche says
Amen on Rapture. Great songs, beautiful voice but atrociously dated production.
fishface says
VAN HALEN 1 or 1984.
recently remastered but no new goodies.
seeing as the led zeppelin catalogue has not been rebaked for well, at least three months…perhaps now is the time.
in the spirit of the thread…..FISH.
Tiggerlion says
Loving the sign off, fishface.
fentonsteve says
Misty In Roots live at the Counter Eurovision. Or maybe that was all of it. Either way, it needs to be back in print.
Another vote for Kate Bush.
Talking Heads did do some extras on the Brick box set but even then admitted there was much more in the archives than would fit on a single CD.
Roxy Music has been given the Steven Wilson treatment, but still no sign of release. Everything else previously released was gathered up on the 2 odds & ends CDs in the Complete Studio box.
Markg says
Great mention of Misty in Roots there…why no Stevie Wonder expanded editions…my vote would be Innervisions, a family favourite from the mid 1970s
Moose the Mooche says
There needs to be a Key of Life box… complete with complimentary “We’re Nearly Finished” t-shirts. The hottest spot of one if the hottest streaks in pop.
duco01 says
Re: the OP’s mention of Aswad’s “Live and Direct”
“You know what live and direkk mean?’ what? ‘It mean Live and direkkk!!'”
Marvellous. Brilliant version of “Love Fire” on that.
Markg says
I have a vague memory of John Peel playing a whole side of this album when it came out ….sort of thing he might have done anyway..What a great response for a new poster ,cheers for responding!
Moose the Mooche says
JP had the intro plus Mankind on Desert Island Discs… wonder what Sue Lawley made of that. “You’re like a cabbage in this society…”
ernietothecentreoftheearth says
Probably a niche request, but Magazine’s live album ‘Play’. Released as a single album, there must have been more.
duco01 says
Re: Magazine’s live album ‘Play’
Seconded. Great album – but too short.
“This is a song with real moral fibre…”
Junior Wells says
Err I was at that concert @duco01 and it was a double bill with XTC as I recall. Wouldn’t have been much more.
duco01 says
Aha. I see. Fair enough.
XTC and Magazine as a double bill? Sounds like a dream line-up to me.
Junior Wells says
yep it was pretty damn good. Preferred Magazine.
fentonsteve says
It was done in deluxe form when the studio albums were remastered as Play+. Play adds 2 tracks, 2nd CD is a whole other gig from the Lesser Free Trade Hall in 1978.
Mike_H says
Perhaps they should redo it as “PlayDoubleDouble+” with both concerts complete. If there is any more, of course.
deramdaze says
Forget “deluxe,” I don’t think Wizz Jones’ debut from ’69 has even had a “luxe!”
Is this the only L.P. not yet to have been released on CD?
duco01 says
Re: “Is this the only L.P. not yet to have been released on CD?”
Nope. Every time this topic comes up, I have to mention three of my favourite albums of all time, none of which has ever been released on CD anywhere.
They are:
Michael Smith: “Mi C’yaan Believe it”
Nic Jones. “The Noah’s Ark Trap”
Nic Jones: “From the Devil to a Stranger”
I know that an intractable legal dispute has prevented the release of the two Nic Jones albums for the past 35 years or so, but I can’t see any reason why some enterprising soul couldn’t put out the Michael Smith album on CD. The reggae re-release market seems pretty healthy to me…
Pessoa says
Stereolab. It’s time to spruce up and remaster the early albums ‘Transient Random Noise…’ and ‘Mars Audiac Quintet’ with assorted radio sessions, b-sides, stray remixes, and live tracks.
slotbadger says
I think ABC Music mopped up all the radio stuff and Switched On, Refried Ectoplasm and Aluminium Tunes kind of covered the odds and sods – but yes, definitely a decent live album / remixes would be very welcome! I am never able to tell much of a difference with remastered recent albums, tho.
Dave Ross says
As I’m in a Depeche Mode zone at the moment “Songs Of Faith and Devotion” would be a good shout. Must be some interesting stuff around that time even how DG got himself into the studio never mind how he managed to sing
paulwright says
Steely Dan. Any/all of them. I mean with all that studio time surely there must be at least enough for an offcuts CD?
Tiggerlion says
Agree. At least Gaucho. There is a bootleg of never released songs and outtakes, enough to fill a whole CD.

Lionheart
Disc One: Remastered Album
Disc Two: Live at Hammersmith
Disc Three: Kate TV Special Soundtrack

DVD 2: Kate TV Special
duco01 says
Re: “Kate TV Special”
Was that the one with Peter Gabriel on it, doing a beautiful, low-key solo version of “Here Comes the Flood” at the piano? That was superb.
Hawkfall says
Yup. He also sang a duet with her, a great cover of Roy Harper’s “Another Day”. That would be the main reason for having the soundtrack.
Markg says
Talking of Peter Gabriel I saw he has very little on Spotify other than soundtrack and guest spots….do you know why…?
Kaisfatdad says
Some labels, the most significant example for me being ECM, (and indeed some artists), have decided not to have a cooperation with Spotify. It’s a shame but I can understand why they do it: increased record sales by not streaming.
attackdog says
Back to the OP. I agree it would be great to hear more of Aswad, however I was at that show (Meanwhile Gardens in Notting Hill in 1982?). If my memory serves correctly it was a fairly short show – they came on later than scheduled – and I’m pretty sure the entire show is captured on the album. Was anyone else there?
Markg says
Did you see Glastonbury clip from 1982?
Markg says
Markg says
Very jealous of you being there…you know the Double Deckers connection I presume.?
Rigid Digit says
Nearly said “Aah – Brinsley Schwarz was in the Double Deckers”
Brinsley was also in the film version of Please Sir!
Markg says
Cool pic, what on earth would we all doing before YouTube,Spotify, wiki etc?
attackdog says
Aswad were playing live (and direct) all over the shop in the early eighties and I saw them many times. Indeed, if you look carefully at the crowd in the Glastonbury set you will see me pissing up against someone’s leg without them realising. It was a bloody hot day and they were grateful. I believe.
In fact recalling this reminds me of what happened that very night. My God she was … But this being a family oriented website and all that!
Markg says
That’s too much information..! And that’s the second time I have written that phrase, the other concerning the benefits of playing Hejira to women…! Pleased to get up to 100 posts…phew!
Markg says
An album I haven’t played recently but might contain more Lanois vibes is Yellow Moon..
Markg says
Markg says
Markg says
What a great album…love this when the horn section comes in at 4 min 15 sec..!
Gary says
It is a fantastic album. IIRC, the CD version was a bit of a deluxe version of the original album in that they tagged on 99½ Won’t Do, Reds Strike The Blues and 16 Tons.
