You may be familiar with the novels Anthony Horowitz has written previously, where he has brought back to life characters such as James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, Dr Watson and Professor Moriarty. In this novel, however, he takes on another great British institution – the whodunit – in his own right.
This is quite an ingenious work, a story hidden within another story. In a nutshell, and without giving too much away, a literary agent receives a manuscript of a best selling author’s new detective novel. However, all is not as it seems, as within that work of fiction lie clues to a completely different ‘real life’ story, incorporating all the old favourites of jealousy, greed and murder.
This is a very enjoyable and entertaining read, not too taxing but an ideal way to while away a few winter evenings.
