What does it sound like?:
Stumbled across a couple of live Lloyd Cole recordings from this year on Pledge Music (see RT post yesterday) and promptly ordered the download version. Two albums available – a full band concert with the Leopards from Brooklyn Bowel and the solo Union Chapel concert from Oct / Nov.
Union Chapel album covers mostly Lloyd Cole & Commotions songs plus a smattering of early solo stuff (and a Prince Song – Sometimes It Snows In April). All done with solo acoustic (and later joined by, I believe, his son), All the classics are there – Rattlesnakes, Perfect Skin, Forest Fire, Lost Weekend etc etc. All very nicely reworked and sounding fantastic acoustically. The recording is great and Lloyd’s voice sounds great. All that is missing is his stage banter.
Available only on Pledge Music (or via his website which links back to Pledge Music) as 2 CD sets, download or Vinyl. Bundles of the two are also available. The download bundle of both at £15 in full FLAC quality is a bargain. Only a 100 or so CD’s left so don’t procrastinate – you know you want this.
What does it all *mean*?
One of the greatest songwriters out there. The strength of the songs shows in how easily (??) and effectively they have been transferred to an acoustic setting.
Goes well with…
A lazy weekend, probably a glass of a nice red (its still the middle of the day here)
Might suit people who like…
Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, remembering your student days, solo acoustic albums, something restrained and relaxed for that New Year hangover

I love ❤️ what Tori Amos did with ‘Rattlesnakes’.
I was aware of the Pledge thingy but didn`t realise the live sets were exclusive to Pledge so thanks @chrisf, I`m going over for the CDs.
I can confirm that it is LC`s son accompanying on guitar.
Edit: ordered ; ))
I was at both these shows and bought the recordings on the way out the door. LC said they would be ‘cleaned up’ before being put on sale.
The Leopards one has been my most played CD of the year. If you like Lloyd these are highly recommended, he was in great form and all the songs are either Commotions tracks or from the early solo LPs.
Chris – thanks for the “heads up” on this. Listening to the Union Chapel recording as I type – and it’s great.
Tickets booked for his concert here in Melbourne on the 14th. Can’t wait!
