What does it sound like?:
This one off release is a five track cd ep issued to commemorate the upcoming fortieth anniversary of the release of David Bowie’s Heroes album, to which Robert Fripp contributed some quite remarkable and unique playing.
All the tracks were recorded live on Crimson’s 2016 European dates. The centrepiece, fittingly, is their version of Heroes, which also appears a second time as a radio edit. You can make up your own mind on this in the clip after this review.
The other tracks are a ten minute version of Easy Money, the trio of drummers work out The Hell Hounds Of Krim, and an edit of Starless, perhaps my favourite Crimson piece. This shortened piece is basically the song part of the original lengthy composition – it’s a shame there wasn’t room to accommodate the whole thing though.
So, a release intended for the fan/collector really, but one that is certainly worth seeking out, especially with its bargain price.
What does it all *mean*?
A full live album from the 2016 dates will appear in the autumn.
