There are many more vinyl bargains at the tax dodgers, but get in there vinyl lovers it’s for a limited time. Five minutes, five hours, five days? How the fuck do I know.

It is until the end of the month. Am trying to resist. Already paid much more than this for the live box which does not contain Symphony in Blue.

Basement Tapes £8.99, Ram £13, Bowie Live Nassau £12, Neil Young Time Fades Away £12, Paul Weller’s first album £13 – some great stuff.
I bought the Kate live thing when it came out on CD. One of the worst sounding live albums I’ve ever heard – echoey, boomy and lifeless. And some utterly barmy production choices – all that dialogue for instance – may have made sense in the show, but who wants to hear that on an album. Big Kate fan, but doubt I’ll ever listen to it again.
Black Type says
Well, to be fair it’s a faithful document of the whole show, so leaving it out wouldn’t have been right.

I also have it on CD and haven’t played the vinyl. Didn’t think it was that bad sounding. Some of the dialogue has been cut somewhat. It was pretty naff in the show, but still one of the greatest live shows I have experienced.

I can’t put my finger on why, but I have never — even pre-CD — liked the idea of a live album on vinyl.
Tapes, CD — both perfect places for a live album. Vinyl? Nah.

Because you need to change sides every 20 minutes.

Re: not liking the idea of live albums on vinyl.
Yes … I can sort of see that logic behind that, Mr Bangs. But if you ever feel like breaking the habit and going for a live album on vinyl, I can certainly recommend the recently released “Live at Ronnie Scott’s, January 15, 1966” by Yusef Lateef. It was unearthed and put out on vinyl only by those good people at Gearbox Records, who’ve released so many marvellous live recordings of jazz in the UK in recent years.
This album came out a bit too late to make the duco01 Favourite Archival Recordings of the Year, but rest assured that it would have been in the upper reaches of that list. Afterword jazzers – if you’re fond of Lateef’s music, this is a wonderfully laid-back set, which comes heartily recommended.

Thanks, duke.
