So I bought tickets ages ago for what promises to be a splendid theatrical show featuring the wonderful Karine Polwart and her beautiful songs.
Inevitably we are now not double- but treble-booked on that night…Stables aren’t interested in swapping the tickets for another night, so I’ve bought 2 more for the Friday night. Have a look at the links and PM me if you’re interested in going on the Saturday. With add-ons tickets are about £30 each. Not looking for face value, but a contribution to the destitute publishers’ whisky fund is always welcome.

Blimey, that’s a bit shouty.

I’ve seen the show. Very impressive. Someone give Mike 20 quid and take a chance…

I’ve been to the venue to see Marcus Brigstock and Susan Calman. It’s very intimate and you’re guaranteed a good view wherever you’re sat.

A good view of Marcus Brigstock?
To each his own…
Tony Japanese says
To be fair, he did strip off at the end of the gig and returned with a strategically placed Velvet Underground LP.

Run run run…

How are you finding Blighty on your return, @mikethep ?
mikethep says
Well, it’s good to be back, thanks for asking. I’ve spent most of the last couple of months in London’s rapidly hipsterising Leyton on grandpa duty, so what with being head cook and bottle washer and going to the shops several times a day, I haven’t seen much of Blighty.
I did go up west one Sunday because I felt I needed to get out more – you know, go to the National Gallery, do the last remaining bookshops on the Charing X Rd, do yet another gloomy pilgrimage to Denmark St. But there were too many bloody people, so I went back to Leyton.
I’m now off duty 5 days a week and living in Folkestone, so I’ll have more chance to take the temperature I guess. I did notice that the recycling bin of my apartment block was full of Daily Mails, but there’s a lot going on, particularly round the harbour, so it’s not all bad. I have discovered that I am a tenant of the Radnor Estate, prop. William Pleydell-Bouverie, 9th Earl of Radnor, and I am not allowed to dry my washing on the (south-facing) balcony. Fuck that.

I’m curious. Why did you choose Folkestone?
mikethep says
My daughter pointed out, quite reasonably, that Cornwall is a long way from London (if not as far as Australia). She had a friend who was living in Folkestone and loved it, she checked it out and loved it; I wouldn’t say we loved it, but we liked it and it seemed to have a lot going for it. Not least the high-speed train loop round Kent – it’s 45 mins to Stratford International, then 10 mins on the bus to her place. And I can be in France in an hour.

Ticks a lot of boxes then. I haven’t been for 40 years, I’m guessing it’s changed a bit.
