Friday was a good day. Two albums were released that I had been waiting for (albeit having had tracks pre-released).
Frightened Rabbit (of whom more later) released Painting of a Panic Attack.
Hayes Carll released Lovers and Leavers; it’s probably best described as his divorce album. It’s a beautifully intimate, raw and honest album. But this track, Magic Kid, is wonderful; the video does a good job of covering it, but the album track is just beautiful. Layered, with just the right degree of statement from the instruments. He’s a got a voice that sounds like the life he’s portraying, and this might be his best yet. I’ve been a fan of his since The Word gave us “She left me for Jesus”, and he gets better and better.
