What does it sound like?:
Daryl Hall and John Oates – what’s not to like about those guys? This is by no means their first, and probably not their last, greatest hits set – I can think of at least three others off the top of my head – but presumably this is out there to tie in with their imminent UK and Irish shows.
Really, their back catalogue is absolutely sublime – every song here is perfect pop encapsulated in three or four minutes, and to be able to do that consistently over such a long span of years is certainly no mean feat. Looking through the eighteen tracks, the chorus of each and every one immediately springs to mind, even with the slightly less well known songs. A taster of some personal faves – Maneater, Rich Girl, Private Eyes, Kiss On My List, She’s Gone – I could list them all really. If you have no Hall & Oates in your collection, remedy that inexcusable omission immediately with this, but don’t neglect to check out the albums these songs originally came from, especially their early albums, which are still a great listen.
What does it all *mean*?
These guys aren’t the biggest selling duo in musical history for nothing. Shame they aren’t doing a few more UK shows.
