I have a couple of guitars at my dad’s place that I’m never going to take back to Thailand. One is a twentysomething year-old Japanese Fender Tele, virtually unplayed. Unsellable because Fender whammy bar – the Floyd Rose knock-off they got sued for – and un-tele pickup array (humbucker, two single poles). Metallic grey, silver, black bits. It’s a beautiful guitar. The other is a Lakewood Spanish-style nylon string, a class instrument.
If you want these, you can pick them up at my dad’s. I’d prefer they found an appreciative home than just get dispersed whenever. There’s also a mosfet practice amp, a Pignose, and a wah pedal thrown in.
Like I say, this is free to a good home, but you’ll have to make the drive through the traffic-clogged Midlands to get here. If you feel guilty about something-for-nothing, you can give my dad some grocery notes, which he’ll appreciate, whatever you want. I wouldn’t feel good if you flogged them off!
PM or email me. I’m here until Sunday (try the veal) but you can pick up any time, on arrangement.

I can think of at least two people in Oz grinding their teeth…

Yeah HP, some mate you are!
H.P. Saucecraft says
If you want to pay shipping from the UK, they’re yours!

I’ve got a Japanese Tele of a similar vintage and it’s a wonderful thing. Although yours sounds a bit compromised visually with that distinctly untrad whammy, if mine is anything go by, it’s a proper guitar and well worth a bit of a drive. If I wasn’t left-handed, I’d have it myself!

I know a 10-year-old who could do with a Tele, I gave him an old amp. Whether his skint mum has time or cash to travel to the Midlands is a different question.
H.P. Saucecraft says
Nah. Not right for a ten year-old.
Robbie1112 says
I’m very interested – unless there was anybody more interested, more deserving or more quick. Not sure how to PM on this site.
H.P. Saucecraft says
OK Robbie – I’m not doing this first come first served, but you’re in the hat!
Junior Wells says
Click on HPs name and take it from there
Artery says
Well, I live in Coventry and very interested. My daughter left home and took both my guitars with her…
H.P. Saucecraft says
What it takes to bring out the lurkers, eh? Artery’s hat is in the ring, and his name is in the hat.

This is the act of a good man.

It is a fine thing to do. ‘Unsellable’ or not. I suspect it isn’t really. A Fender Tele. Gratis. A fine thing to do.
Peanuts Molloy says
Yes, if it is (as I suspect from the OP description: “Fender whammy bar and un-tele pickup array – humbucker, two single poles”) a Fender Contemporary Tele then it is far from unsellable and a very generous gift.
I have one which I bought years ago having seen the guitarist in T’Pau use one on TOTP. Here it is:
It’s a fiddly thing with its locking nut and irritating tremelo arm but I like how it looks on the wall.
More here:
Assuming this is what it is then the recipient should be very grateful.
H.P. Saucecraft says
Yup, that’s it. Mine is silver, though, a kind of metalflake silver-grey. Prettier than the black. I already have an electric in Thailand that I rarely play – a gift from a San Francisco barkeeper who lugged it around the bars of Hanoi, as beat-up as me. He also gave me a five-string bass which I play even less, so in a way I’m just passing on his favour. And some kind person here sent me a Kindle Fire. Giving is good.
H.P. Saucecraft says
The Lakewood acoustic has found a home. I’ll leave the offer open until the weekend and contact the lucky winnah of the Tele. I bridled a bit at the “fiddly” description of the locking whammy-thingy- – it’s rock solid. The only danger is forgetting you’ve locked the nut and tightening a machine head. Argh.
H.P. Saucecraft says
@beezer – check your PMs.
Beezer says
One has replied. Thank you.
Steerpike says
I’d like to throw my hat in the ring too please HP. I have been diligently learning on acoustic for the past 12 months and I’m in the Midlands. I have my own teeth. I’m not looking for hook ups.
H.P. Saucecraft says
I’m still waiting for a Hot Chick* (who may know nothing about guitars – this isn’t an issue for me) to claim the Grand Prize. In her absence, I will scrupulously assess all applications based on merit and award the prize anonymously later in the week – begging letters still being accepted. Up to the Lucky Winner to publicise his (or her, if she’s a pouting lovely with a come-hither glance)** extreme good fortune.
The Lakewood accoustic – a lovely instrument – has already been claimed.
While I’m here – anyone want a tenor sax? Come on, don’t be shy, ladies!***
*Not you, Mrs B..
**Again not you, Mrs B.
***Sorry, Mrs B!
H.P. Saucecraft says
Tenor sax duly scarfed up. I’ve given up on the Hot Chick turning up for the Fender (shame – I had some unusual fingerings to show her) so I’ll roll the dice and get in touch with the lucky winnah tomorrow.
H.P. Saucecraft says
… and the Fender has now been disposed of. Condolences to those needy souls who missed out this time!
Artery says
Sincerest thanks to Tim.
The guitar is simply wonderful. I haven’t picked up a guitar since my daughter left home with mine nearly 10 years back. What’s more i have just retired, so I actually have time to learn properly.
Thanks again Mr Saucecraft!
Junior Wells says
up for @artery
multiple ups for @h-p-saucecraft
Johnny Concheroo says
Yes, all joking aside, it was a fine, altruistic gesture.
You’re a good man @h-p-saucecraft
H.P. Saucecraft says
I think the date is wrong on the receipt (in the case), Mr Artery. Working back through my wives I’m certain it’s about twenty years old. And thanks for the wine!
H.P. Saucecraft says
@johnny-concheroo – I’ve been given an electric in Siam, so I’m just passing on the favour. Also, a kind soul on the Afterword gave me a Kindle Fire. I like the idea of using the blog to give stuff away.
badartdog says
I agree.
I have 120+ dvds of comics some British, mostly American. I’m also going to be off work through Nov and Dec and would be happy to make some copies for anyone interested.
If interested, PM me and I’ll send an Excel file that lists titles/characters available (not issue numbers though, sadly – but feel free to enquire about specific runs etc.)
