Crimson’s live album gets a deluxe reissue in November.
Details are on the SDE site – I won’t copy the link as it always seems to cause problems – but looks like Colin H has already been there 😉

Is that the one with the legendary abysmal sound quality?
Mike_H says
I wouldn’t call it abysmal, just below previous standards.
Added to the fact that that particular edition of Crim was the least accomplished, musically. In my opinion.
There were quite a few other live recordings of that KC edition released by the Crimson Collectors Club and unofficially, so there should be quite a raft of “extras” to go with the original 5 tracks.

Yep, I was there, Barge. I assumed this thread was going to be a review and wondered how you’d got through the 40-odd discs that doubtless accompany this deluxe edition, as is Crim’s wont.

I’m looking forward to this, having been a fan of the original since it came out. It was an Island budget HELP release IIRC, and the muddy recording didn’t do much to boost its reputation. But a deep immersion courtesy of my dad’s big headphones revealed a stonking band making a glorious racket, albeit two fields away, the other side of the car park, on a monstrous PA. At least, that’s what it sounded like. I thought it heralded an electric promise of outdoor gigs to come, and it filled me with excitement. I’ve heard the KCCC releases, which are barmy and brilliant, and I have everything crossed that they’ve found more audio wizardry for the forthcoming set; just hope it isn’t too expensive!

The last edition of Earthbound (30th anniversary? …CD came in a cardboard LP sleeve replica) already sounded pretty good. The new one includes the brilliant Summit Studio performance, which is a multitrack professional recording.

The original Earthbound was compiled from recordings of 4 different dates on a US tour in Feb. and Mar. 1972. Presumably there are unreleased tracks from these and other dates. A full album of the Jacksonville Florida gig from which an edit of “A Sailor’s Tale” was taken is available.
Mike_H says
The forthcoming “Sailors’ Tales” megabox seems to cover Earthbound and a shedload of other stuff.
21 CDs, 4 BluRay discs and 2 Audio DVDs in a 12″x12″ box. With booklet, memorabilia and sleeve notes by Sid Smith, Jakko Jakszyk and David Singleton, plus a further downloadable concert.
Looks like all the expanded Earthbound material is covered in this set.
It’ll set you back between £143.57 and £175.18 to pre-order from Amazon, depending which foreign country’s Amazon site you go to. Burning Shed have it exclusively for UK pre-order.

Isn’t Earthbound taken from the tour where the band mutinied and decided they wanted to play R&B?
Mike_H says
It was the last knockings of that band, certainly. The others weren’t happy about being expected to free-improvise a significant part of the set while Fripp wasn’t happy about their reluctance to do so.
They broke up pretty much straight after and the “Larks’ Tongues In Aspic” band was formed not much later.
