In my role as the advocate for Chuck Prophet and The Mission Express (do people recall choosing a band to advocate for) I’m so pleased to announce they have landed in Europe (playing dates in Germany and Holland) and will be in the UK very soon. This is extra notable because in 2016, for the first time in a long time, they did not tour the UK, so my hunger to hear the mighty Mission Express is huge
His new album Bobby Fuller Died For Your Sins is out today as well.
Their UK dates are as follow. I’m going to be at The Garage in Islington on the 21st
February 14th – Oxford – The Bullingdon
February 15th – Glasgow – ABC2
February 16th – Leeds – The Brudnell Social Club
February 17th – Manchester – The Deaf Institute
February 18th – Winchester – The Railway SOLD OUT
February 19th – Nottingham – Rescue Rooms
February 20th – Bristol – The Tunnels
February 21st – London – The Garage
After that is back to the continent.
So if you haven’t got your tickets get on line. They make for an excellent evening’s entertainment.

It’s a good album too. ‘California noir’ as Chuck has described it.

Yes I remmender volunteering to be advocate for RT. I must’ve been quick off the mark.
Chuck’s new one sounds pretty ptretty good after only a couple of listens on Spotty. He’s never made a bad album in my opinion….. with GoR or solo. I’ll be at the ABC in Glasgow on Wednesday. Can’t wait.

I have the new album and it really sounds to me like he’s on top of his game, even after just a couple of listens.
Last two have had their moments but don’t excite me like Chuck can at his best.

Extremely miffed today when I went to Fopp & HMV to buy the new CD & they didn’t have it. I’ve decided to make do with Spotifying it until Wednesday’s gig when I can buy it direct from Chuck (hopefully).
Saw him for the 1st time in Glasgow 2015 & he blew me away. So much so that when he got to Edinburgh at the end of the tour months later I took the day off & travelled through.
Go see him if you get the chance.

My god, he was good. A more consistently wonderful band would be hard to find. All 3 times I’ve seen him, he has been totally engaged with the audience & really into it. I wish I enjoyed my job as much as he seems to.

Who the fuck is Chuck Prophet?
Carl says
A guitarist and singer/songwriter/band leader from San Francisco.
He first came to the fore in the 1980s as guitarist in Green on Red. After GoR split he began a solo career.
He formed The Mission Express to back him. Keyboard player and vocalist Stephanie Finch is also Mrs Prophet. The line up has stabilised in recent years after a few ins and outs and the other musicians are James DePrato on guitar, Kevin White on bass and Vicente Rodriguez on drums.
Live the are usually brilliant. The guitar duelling between Chuck and James can be jaw dropping when they are in the mood.
Albums I’d recommend from his catalogue: Homemade Blood, Age Of Miracles, No Other Love, Let Freedom Ring! and yesterday’s release (which on the basis of just a couple of listens souynds like a cracker) Bobby Fuller Died For Your Sins.
This is hardly the first thing I’ve posted about Chuck so I’m not sure whether you’re just being mischievous or whether you’ve simply overlooked album and gig reviews and various YouTube films I’ve posted when they have seemed appropriate. Plus others have posted about Chuck too.
bricameron says
Nope. Not mischievous. Oblivious.
bungliemutt says
Allow me.

Thank you Bungliemutt. I’m dumbfounded at myself.
Listening to the first one right now. Sounds pretty good so far.
