Nottingham Rescue Rooms
Nottingham’s Rescue Rooms was surprisingly packed to the rafters for 2 hours of stupendous Rock and Roll from Chuck and his brilliant band The Mission Express. From the off they set out their intent with the opening title track Bobby Fuller died for your sins. They seemed particularly up for it tonight and the guitar interplay between Chuck and James DePrato was at times incendiary non more so than on You did – a great live favourite. Of the new songs Jesus was a social drinker particularly stood out. Then there were old favourites Summertime Thing and Willie Mays is up to bat both getting rapturous applause from a very appreciative audience. They also covered Iodine a Leonard Cohen Song from Death of a ladies man that I hadn’t heard for some time. The duet vocals between Chuck and Stephanie suggested they might yet have a country album in them. The encore was a rock and roll cover I didn’t quite get the name but with Chuck adding the Pretty Woman and Peter Gunn just to get the crowd even more stoked up and then they finished with a lovely You and me baby 9hoding on) from Let Freedom ring. All in all a fabulous night and anyone contemplating getting a ticket for any remaining show Do It!!
really into it from start to finish – Chuck and the band were obviously enjoying it immensely and it was a joy to see.
It made me think..
Chuck has one of the best live bands around and I am really surprised that when people talk of great guitarists he is rarely mentioned. Personally I think he is up there with the best.
