Only 65. Loved his work with Dylan and Steve Earle too.

As you may know, I am a fan of Matsuli Music- for the music itself, the quality of the product -cardboard, photos, liner notes etc and the cause. Resurrecting otherwise underappreciated music, seeking out the artists to ensure proper payments etc. It’s a labor of love but it costs money So I have just signed up to a deal where I get the next 7 releases, those just out and imminent. The digital files were sent straight away and the first 4 vinlys are in the mail.

The Seekers were a funny sort of band. Definitively straight and daggy they were covered by Nick Cave in his high junk period and a guilty pleasure for many. I remember this concert occurring. The neighbours who were really uncool awkward people went so maybe 10% of Melbourne did turn up
I still wonder how crowd numbers are calculated.
The advance notices have been very positive but I’m a bit underwhelmed so far, particulalry underwhelmed by the opening track which is a bad start. It just seems to say the same thing over and over again.
Great guitar sound with a touch of Mark Knopfler at his more fiery at times and hs voice is as strong as ever.
It is a dilemma after an artist establishes a solid body of work, how to maintain the principal feel of your oeuvre without it just sounding like another [insert name of artist] record.
Mind you it is a heap better than the new Lucinda, but that’s another post.
I have been reviewing higher end bluetooth receivers and came across a few comments that it would be better to use chromecast audio / wi fi as the sound will be better.
Any comments?
Really liking this novel marketing ploy

Arguably the equal of Fela in creating Afrobeat. Not nearly as frenetic as I expected when I saw him – a classic case of less is more in generating massive momentum.
Can I just say I am tiring of Brian Eno being trotted out for a quotable quote.

I am talking about the type you hold on the record and move into the centre as the disc spins.
I have used Decca brushes for many years but they are all soft and bits missing so time to upgrade. Has technology moved on? What do people recommend?
As soon as I heard he had contracted the virus I reckoned he was a goner given his health issues and age.
Glad he was still touring and getting heaps of recognition in his twilight.
The reference to the Beatles in this article is pretty funny.
As you all know Aussies can’t help but abbreviate things. I think the definitive example is the Melbourne Cricket Ground which goes under the initials M.C.G. However, most locals refer to it as “The G”.
Corona virus – Rona Isolation – Iso Thwarted at shops by panic buyers buying out what you want – Magpied
” In iso coz of the Rona. Tried to stock up but got magpied.”
Seems like a lot of frigging around to me but then again, one man’s poison…..
The fees were an eye opener. Charges based on plus postage price. Yowzah!
I have’s checked in any detail but this playlist reportedly includes every Dylan song that is on Spotify, chronologically.
Warning: Playing this all the way through may danage relationships.
So I am in iso with Mrs Wells post NZ trip. See WOMAD review. Ingrid is going back to the family on weekend but due to me being in multiple risk categories( if only my lotto numbers lined up like this) I am gunna hang back.
So here is the thing. We don’t have internet in the family retreat. To date I am using Ingrid’s phone as the wi fi connection and me as the base station for the broadcasting.
Question. Can I chromecast to the Tv using my mobile phone only ?
The recordings are on Spotify, Band Camp and CD. Presumably others streaming services too.

New Zealand is the first country of size to herald in the new year. This year it may have been the last country to host a music festival before the “great shutdown”.
Womad ,as most will know, is a world music festival started by Peter Gabriel et al to promote musics from around the world. I have attended the festival in Adelaide – Womadelaide, reasonably regularly for many years. The last coule were very hot, crowded and with the foot traffic and heat, very dusty. For an asthmatic like me I had had enough. The Womad caravan continues on to NZ after Adelaide so this year a group of us decided to make the trip “across the ditch” take in the festival and tour the north island as well. Things were getting tight, with the virus hitting the northern hemisphere but down here it was the relative calm before the storm. So off we go! First impressions- what a beautiful lush park and as we turn into the first staging area there is the perfectly formed Mt Taranaki- overlooking proceedings. It is very hilly, unlike the flat grasslands of Adelaide, which » Continue Reading.

Maybe we shoukd have another tab along with obits – musos with Covid 19
I was thinking that if Dylan gets it, you’d have to think it would a be a restless farewell given the heart thingo he had a few years back.
I picked this cheapie up in NZ second hand. It’s on Pegasus which I understand is a budget label.I recognised some tracks but not others including some nice country style ballads.
Anyone got any info?

Loved this bloke. Saw him at the Hammersmith Palais circa 1983. Creator of the Makossa Beat. Play it next to Isaac Hayes’s Shaft.
I’ve got a couple of solo piano records of his. A little bit saccharine but no lack of dexterity and he did a lot of production too.
RIP Manu.
I have sung the praises of the Sth African jazz funk reissue label Matsuli.
They are doing what a few others are doing at the moment by making stuff available free.
