I`ve been listening to a lot of Beatles outtakes this week dominated by the Let It Be/Get Back sessions because they comprised 50% of the content. I apologise to those of you who have not heard these outtakes but I feel the question must be asked. During the `Get Back` sessions several references were made about Enoch Powell and that politician`s `incendiary` views and comments. The questions I have is were the Beatles (John & Paul really) just repeating and ridiculing Powell or were they being naive. I can`t believe that PM&JL would have made these comments seriously knowing everything was being recorded in sound & vision. Is my faith misplaced?
There was a great support band for Chuck Prophet in July. They were from London but I have forgotten their name. They had a CD on sale and I`d like to buy a copy. Can anyone help? Thanks.
Big Big Train are playing at the esteemed `Night of the Prog Festival, Loreley 2018` so my/our first trip to Germany is planned.
Any AWers have any tips, hotels close by, anything of use really.
Just a bit of fun really, this thread is. To help in the thread to review ratio. Some good tips though.
Listening to 6Music in the background early this afternoon. Then it was a WTF is this moment. Have I got Radio 2 on? It was bloody Moaning Morrissey with one of his mournful ditties. I really thought it was Ken fecking Dodd singing. What next Morrissey and his Davyhulme Sewage Works Whistlers turning out more turds for songs.
I thought some of you may be interested in these astonishing fly by clips* from NASA`s `New Horizons` probe of Pluto and it`s largest moon Charon. *They have been enhanced but even with that knowledge the footage is still jaw-dropping even though there are no signs of any of our Extra-Terrestrial neighbours. Enjoy.
The link is in comments, admin is there any reason why we have to put links in comments and not in the initial post?
My postman knocked on the door today with my daily supply of music paraphernalia. I got talking to him regarding when I was going on holiday and where to leave any parcels. “I`m away from 3rd Aug – 29th Aug mate”, he tells me. I say, bloody hell you get a lot of holidays, where you going? “Scotland mate”, oh aye, wherabouts? “Edinburgh mate, I`m a comedian and I`ve got a few gigs there”. That`s great, I say, How long have you been doing it? “Couple of years mate”. I ask him to give me a knock the next time he`s playing local.
So what does your postman, window cleaner, gardener, milkman or candlestick maker do on the side?
I might tell you about my barber & Lee Scratch Perry & Half Man Half Biscuit sometime, but that`s for later; let me present to you my postman (I found this on`t net, he didn`t tell me), CHRIS WASHINGTON…
I`m posting this blog prompted by @Junior_Wells blog;
This is from Rolling Stone`s daily email to subscribers;
I`ve posted two links, the first a commentary on The New York Times articles at the weekend. The second, well it`s self explanatory. Rolling Stone magazine no longer functions as a music magazine but they really love Big Don.
I would like to apologise to ALL AWers for the blog and my contributions to that blog`Oh No! The King is Back, Long Live The King!`. It was indeed meant as a double edged sword that got out of hand, not helped by my contributions.
I would like to thank @MC_Escher for bringing me to my senses with his `nob end` remark.
Dylan fans and non-Dylan fans may find this Rolling Stone piece of some interest.
Seems Bob no longer has any `secrets to conceal`.
Yes, a puppet on a string that`s me. We`ve no chance in fact I`m surprised they`ve let us enter. Enjoy the show.
As most of us are aware Mark L predicts the results of Premier League games in a weekly contest against a celebrity or sports person. Now who would have topped Mark L`s table, hur hur I bet it`s not Everton! On first look, apart from the obvious, Liverpool unbeaten so far, Mark dosen`t seem too far off the mark but we have to remember this is a weekly prediction err(?) thingy maybe he is as out of touch as his fashion and coiffure sense.

“You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.” said Albert Camus, Douglas Adams said “The Ultimate Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything is…42!” Now Afterworders I give you the answer to everything Dark Matter….
Following on from the Kindle Alert for Moby`s biography (auto? I`ve forgot, it was more than 3 minutes ago!) I came across Whispering Bob`s autobiography `Still Whispering After All These Years` for £0.99 which will be just as interesting*. I miss Bob, is he still with us?
The Tax Dodgers have Elliott Smith`s `Either/Or` LP going for £6.71. There may be a snag because they say it ain`t in stock. However if any vinyl lovers (me included) fancy a chance of a cheap copy, here it is.
Roger McGuinn on twitter: “Pandora played “Eight Miles High” 228086 times in the second quarter of 2016 and paid me $1.79 [IMG]”
“Whoops I got that wrong. It was really $9.15”
I hope You Tube pay more for using this clip and please no comments about rich rock stars. Roger McGuinn, Gene Clark, Michael Clarke, Chris Hillman are/were hardly wealthy, Gene & Michael died broke. Only Crosby made any money and it wasn`t from Byrds royalties. Comments about where Crosby`s dosh went are welcome.
First an apology to non-football fans, right that`s that over with to my subject;
How bloody impressive are that team Totenham HOTspurs. They are BEATing every team they play with GREAT football, verve and panache. They have two players who can help England become a GOOD team, maybe, with Kane & Alli.
Can they WIN the league, that`s a BIG yes. The play better football than THE Russian`s mob, are more consitent than Arsenal, have already DISMANTLED Man City, Liverpool? a draw at Anfield this season, forget the EFL Cup result, they play each other in a month. MATCH of the season? YES.
I support Manchester United F.C., we used to be as good as Spurs, we may be as good again one day. I am also a fan of good football and I say to all football fans – ENJOY.
And so it goes, another week another Afterword Poll. This week it`s the Best David Bowie Studio Albums Poll. There has been a lot of moanin` an` groanin` going on about which albums should be excluded/included and not without merit. However I stated at the start that this was to be a studio albums poll and had I then said `OK Live albums are included`, no doubt there would have been `What about compilations, bootlegs, Tin bloody Machine!`. Maybe in 6 months I will conduct a poll to include all the albums people wish to be included. I doubt there will be much change in the order of studio albums rankings but will ★ rate higher, how would `David Live` be regarded? Right to the poll results, please find them in the comments. Just a reminder the position of each album was arrived at by the total points each album accrued. Placing an album 1st earned 5 points, placing 2nd earned 4 points down to 1 point for placing 5th. If you did not allot a position to your 5 choices each choice earned 3 points. The points each album received is in the first column of figures. I have » Continue Reading.
Tony Visconti talks about his friend David Bowie and amongst other things a surround mix of ★ in this Super Deluxe Edition feature.
This is for @corganiser who asked `Can we have a new update which defines the timezone that you are applying to the voting cut-off?` which I didn`t take seriously but you never know. The time zone is G.M.T. and as we all know the time & date is midnight 11th January 2017.
Voting will end for this poll at midnight on Wednesday 11th January. I hope to post the results by 01:00 on Thursday 12th January.
Up to now over 90 people have voted for their favourites or what they consider to be the best David Bowie STUDIO albums. If anyone still wishes to take part you can place your selections in the comments to this Blog. You can vote for up to 5 albums numbering them in order of preference, 5 points for the first down to one point for the fifth OR you can select up to 5 albums in no particular order, each will receive 3 points. NO Live albums, Compilations or Tin Machine albums please.
Thanks to those of you who have taken part up to now.
Due to the fantastic response to the David Bowie Greatest Studio Album Poll, over 70 of you have voted, thank you, may I suggest that I bring the closing date forward.

If anyone still wishes to vote, please pick your 5 favourite David Bowie STUDIO Albums, no Live or Compilation albums. Number 1-5 (5 points 1st choice to 1 point 5th choice) or if you can`t prioritise, pick up to 5 albums, (3 points each).
You can place your votes in the comments to this thread.
We`re going to a concert – Big Big Train on Friday 29 September 2017 at the Cadogan Hall.
We`ll be coming from the NW earlier in the day so can anyone give reccomendations on hotels that won`t cost a fortune. I`ve just checked Google Maps and see the hall is situated in a posh part of Londom so using the underground will be a must. Tips on that if possible.
Thanks in advance.
