Any recommendations for video editing software? Windows Movie Maker used to be OK if lacking in the audio processing dept, but is now gone. iMovie on my Mac is absolutely atrocious. I’ve tried NCH VideoPad and Shotcut on PC both of which are pretty un-intuitive and have hardly any documentation. I just want to take stuff off the camera, trim the crap, enhance the audio a bit if necessary (it’s generally music stuff I’m doing) and add some titles then bung it on YouTube. Is this too much to ask? Any ideas?

Windows Movie Maker gone? I think you can still download it.

It disappeared off my laptop when I did the last upgrade, but I still have it on the desktop. It’s OK but I wish it had better audio processing – EQ, compression, limiter etc for cleaning up the audio track. It’s fine for clips with decent audio.

Final Cut Pro (Mac) is the BEST video editing software.
Whatever it doesn’t do you can generally get plugins for.
FCP and Logic are the two reasons I went Mac over PC for my home setup

Bleaugh it’s an Apple product. I just cannot get on with Apple’s design ideas. I think you either think like them or you don’t, and I don’t. I use a MacMini for music but don’t use any of their software other than Finder and Safari. I use Reaper for music by the way and love it. Ta for the thought though.

I also use Final Cut Pro and find it really intuitive, but I usually edit my audio separately and then dub it back on. I always record separate sound anyway, so it’s not really an issue. I have done iMovie edits direct from my phone which is fine if time is more important than quality

Actually you can edit video in Reaper, using all your audio plug ins etc and the editing is the same, so from an audio point of view it’s tip top, but when I tried it a year ago it was too clunky and new – I hear, via this looking around, that it’s better now. Must try it.

I haven’t used this but I do use their conversion program. You can download a trial version. It’ll probably be watermarked, (the converter is unless you pay for the download) but at least you can try it out.
