But isn’t a little odd that Paul Simon, who, according to the YT notes, was promoting Rhythmn of the Saints at the time, should appear on a children’s show? That is definitely a record that many children would get.
I guess that you take the PR chances that you’re given and he clearly is relaxed and having a lot of fun. So why not?
Well aside from Top Of The Pops and Wogan’s chat show there weren’t many other outlets on the BBC in 1990-1. Plus lazy arse students and “young adults” were regular viewers of Saturday morning kids shows. They don’t have the long form magazine type live kids TV shows anymore but shows like Tiswas, Swap Shop and the like were key pop showcases.
Reminds me of the apocryphal story about Paul Simon appearing on Pebble Mill in the 80s, and his manager arguing that Paul REALLY didn’t want to mime his new single in the (windy) outdoors. Apparently, the exchange ended ‘It’s a wig! OK? It’s a fucking wig!’

Up all night up to no good, watch Tiswas through bleary eyes and then retire to bed.
Seem to vaguely recall doing that in the days of my youth.
