There’s never been an actual ACR ‘Best Of’ before – that’s not a bad track list actually given the fact they have to try and represent some huge stylistic shifts – much like if you tried to do a Best Of Fleetwood Mac across their entire lifespan. So they’ve captured most of the incarnations of the band there (their reputation may rest on their early Factory Records material but the 90s stuff is much loved and went down so well last time I saw them live). I’d have wanted to shoehorn in ‘Waterline’ and perhaps something like ‘Hot Knights’ to reflect the more ‘out there’ stuff they did but I’d be happy with that as an introduction to ACR.
Here’s the new tune featuring the great Barry Adamson (and a cameo from the late Tony Wilson) and it’s rather good:

Picking a career-wide ACR set is a hard task. I tried recently and narrowed it down to about 3 hours.
The last compilation was The Old and The New in, what, 1985? Before Force, anyhow.

Since The Old and The New there was also the excellent Early on Soul Jazz, although by it’s nature that didn’t cover everything. This new one seems designed to mirror their current setlist, which makes it a winner. Mickey Way is back in for the shows at the end of the year. Still think they should add Bootsy to the setlist.
