Tickets are now on sale for The Indigo Girls, who will be here in July.
Not my favourite band, but one I like a lot, but more to the point, ever since I first discovered them, some 20 years or more ago, they’ve never been over here on tour (but I stand to be corrected on that).
Certainly this is the first time I’ve been aware of them touring and from what I’ve read they are a tremendous, formidable live band.
Dates confirmed are:
Thursday 20 July, RNCM Theatre, Manchester, UK
Friday 21 July, Albert Hall, Nottingham, UK
Saturday 22 July, The Leadmill, Sheffield, UK
Monday 24 July, Birmingham Town Hall, Birmingham, UK
Tuesday 25 July, Bierkeller, Bristol, UK
Wednesday 26 July, Concorde 2, Brighton, UK
Saturday 29 July, Islington Assembly Hall, London, UK
Sunday 30 July, Islington Assembly Hall, London, UK
I’ve got tickets for the 29th.
Possibly a couple more dates can be added into that schedule. No dates in Scotland I note.

wow, the Bierkeller is a proper old pit of a venue, sticky floors and posters for metal tribute bands everywhere. Not what I’d associate with the Indigo Girls! Quite tempted.

I saw them around 1995 at Shepherds Bush and they were really good. I’d be tempted by Brighton but I’m being a Corporate Media Whore that night and Islington is a major journey for me.

Excellent!
Always had a soft spot for them since Closer to Fine soundtracked a summer working in a warehouse when I was 19 or so. I’ve got all the albums, though I’ve not listened to the latter ones overly much. They do a mean cover version in their live shows, although much better known for original tunes.
As said, a weird bunch of venues, God knows which bit of the Albert Hall they’ll play here, you very rarely get gigs there. Surely the Rescue Rooms would’ve been better?
I’ll certainly be going.
I saw them in Manchester years and years ago, got to the gig in a cab, got out and bumped straight into a girl I used to go out with 5 years previously, who I’d barely seen since…

I expressed my, um, nervousness, about being male at an Indigo Girls gig on the old site, being heartily assured that no issues and a great vibe. So that’s me at Town Hall, Brum, front row, no less.

28th July: Cambridge Folk Festival, although I will be in the Cairngorms.
Belladrum is in driving distance, has anybody been? Is it a family-friendly festival?
SteveT says
Thanks @Carl I was unaware of this.A big fan so I will be getting tickets.
Carl says
@SteveT it’s at The Town Hall too. I really like that venue.
I always enjoyed the gigs I saw there back in my student days
retropath2 says
And much better acoustics since they removed much of upstairs, during its lengthy closure in the 90s-00s.
Carl says
Presumably that is the seating that used to be down the side of the hall?
I used to like getting one of those seats where you looked down on the band from the stage.
retropath2 says
There are still some sideways balcony seats, but I seem to recall cavernous areas divided by large sections of wall that literally made anything of volume echo from side to side.

An Indigo Girls gig when they were touring ‘Swamp Ophelia’ remains in my top three gigs to this day. Seen them several times over the years: never less than brilliant.
Carl says
Good to hear confirmation of their live reputation here.
Hopefully they maintain that intensity all these years later.
